    Custom 2-up Sled

Thanks, excellent advice. It sounds like the Venture GT would be a lot of fun and probably perfect for what we want. I'm a very big guy myself- 6'4" and a hair over 300 lbs. I could throw around the original RX-1 when others thought they were large, overweight pigs. I don't mind losing a few...

    Custom 2-up Sled

How much power does the Venture GT have? I was browsing the Yamaha site last night and thought it looked like a very good sled, and I see the displacement is up a bit from the RS Venture. If the power is up a bit, maybe it would be what we are looking for. If I were to find a used Venture and...

    Custom 2-up Sled

Due to being out of work and financial problems, I had to sell my beloved RX-1 last year. But I'm not back at work, and making a lot more money than I used to. Its time to start looking to the future, and decide what to do for a sled. My wife wants to ride with me sometimes, so we have...

Wooa. Got 30 miles in. Lowel, VT on 58 and 242.

Wow...I can't believe you have that over there! We have NOTHING here. Even worse than last year, by far. Not even any rumors of so-so riding near the border or anything. I did tear up and down our dirt road on New Year's eve, but thats pretty much melted away now. Jim

Huge increase in oil consumption & rod through case?

I also wondered why this problem is happening. I'm surprised its happening to your '05. I also ride long days, and hard enough that it should stay cleaned out. I broke it in well and changed my oil much more frequently than required, and changed my filter at almost every oil change just to be...

Huge increase in oil consumption & rod through case?

Something to keep in mind. Using seafoam or ringfree is just a band-aid to the real problem, weak rings. Thats why Yamaha's fix is to use the newer ('05+) rings. They have more tension. I'm not saying that using seafoam won't work, and its sure a lot cheaper and easier than replacing the rings...

Huge increase in oil consumption & rod through case?

I did just what you mentioned, at least as far as lifting the rear of the sled. I used a couple tablespoons of seafoam in each cylinder. After soaking, I cranked it over with the plugs out, then installed them and ran the sled long enough to warm up and clean out the cylinders. Then I shut it...

Huge increase in oil consumption & rod through case?

When mine was burning 1 qt. in 100 miles last season, I tried Seafoam, but it didn't do any good. I tried it in the tank with no luck. Then I tried doing a compression test, letting seafoam soak in the cylinders, running it a while to clean it out, and did another compression test. The...

    Northern N.H. '05/'06

50 miles for the season for me. Fortunately I didn't register our 2 sleds this year, because I was waiting for snow before doing it. For once my procrastination paid off! Those 50 miles were just riding up and down our access trail clearing brush, and 1 trip down to town with my wife for lunch...

    Northern N.H. '05/'06

:drink: Ya got that right! lol. I moved up here from southern NH to get away from this kind of weather. Oh well, this stuff can't last forever. Maybe next year we'll be riding from November until April. Just think if all this rain was snow instead... Jim

Things aren't looking good up in this area. Rain Friday night, 50 degrees yesterday, and it poured all night last night. Lots of grass showing again. Colebrook has officially closed their trails and locked up the gates until/if we get more snow. I talked to someone who came back from Pittsburg...

    Interesting 2cyl, 4-stroke, 97hp motor

Actually, in the KTM bike its mounted solidly as a stressed member, and all the ride reports I have read said that its very smooth, without vibes. Jim

    Interesting 2cyl, 4-stroke, 97hp motor

Now that you mention it, I remember reading something about Polaris and KTM possibly hooking up. :o| As much as i dislike Polaris, I wouldn't mind trying a sled with that engine. Jim

    UNIMPRESSED!!

As much as I like my RX, I have to say that I bought it for the motor and reliability alone. The stock rear suspension on the '03s and '04s sucks. I constantly fought with adjustments, then broken parts because the stock skid can't handle rough conditions. The first time you break the W arm...

    Interesting 2cyl, 4-stroke, 97hp motor

Yea, thats what I said, 4-stroke. :drink: I would think it would be as torquey as possible while still having a fairly high RPM range. Knowing that company, it should be an extremely reliable engine. Considering a KTM won the bike class of the Dakar rally with this engine, it should be up for...
