Just realized you are talking about the jackshaft not axle, so its even easier, you can remove the bearing seal without pulling the Bearing Clip, i did both when of them when I recently did it. If your doing one, check both.

Very easy, pull your secondary, and take the speedo gear housing off, pull the Bearing Seal and check. I recently did this, and found my bearing full of ice, I warmed it up (hair dryer) cleaned it with WD40, and re-greased. very quick job, and well worth it to check.
