Grooming in Vermont with 08 VK Pro

Re: Setting track with YTS drag and Tidd Tech Track setter Hi Trailboss and welcome to this forum. Sounds like you have lots of sled and grooming experience. I hope you will share some of it with us. There are lots of comments/questions in here. I'll try to respond back on a couple. 1...

Grooming in Vermont with 08 VK Pro

2009-10 Grooming Season has begun Hi Everyone, The forum is pretty quiet right now. I'm back up and running this year. I've been out grooming our xc ski trails 4 times so far. We have about 10 inches of snow to work with. My biggest effort right now is brushing in all my wet areas...

Grooming in Vermont with 08 VK Pro

Hi Teton RB, Welcome to the VK Pro forum. With a fleet of 3 VK Pros you might be the biggest user on the forum. One suggestion regarding the cooling is to purchase the second radiator setup for just one of your sleds. Then when the weather gets warm, that's the sled that gets pulled...

Grooming in Vermont with 08 VK Pro

Sounds like you are doing all the right things regarding maintenance. My dealer also cleaned the clutches, installed a slider kit in the primary clutch, and removed the shim washers from the secondary clutch. He also checked the wires to the rectifier and they were dry. Off season will be...

Grooming in Vermont with 08 VK Pro

I picked up my VK Pro from the dealer today and had time to ride it for about half an hour when I got home. Reverse is definitely improved. The dealer said my drive belt was so tight that it wouldn't release into reverse. Winter is quickly disappearing in Vermont. I'll probably be...

This sounds like a great idea. I would have a winch for sure that I could pull the sled out from the front, or pull my groomer from behind if I dropped it at the bottom of a killer hill. I have a friend who grooms with a tracked ATV and he has a plow set up front. Uses it mostly to clear the...

It may depend on your dual purpose use, how heavy duty your work applications are. I'm a groomer and I won't consider a sled without low gear. If you are looking for a good riding sled the majority of the time and an occasional pull it could work out. But for my everyday pulling needs...

I have the Simmons Gen II Flexi-Skis. They provide probably the same amount of floatation as the Yamaha wide skins. Their two additional benefits are very good steering control with the dual runners, and very durable with the thicker plastic. But with skis and the mount they will run you $435...

Grooming in Vermont with 08 VK Pro

Thanks everyone. Good ideas about my service list. A good example why I like this website. I'll let you know toward the end of next week how it's running after the dealer has worked on things.

Grooming in Vermont with 08 VK Pro

Maybe last grooming run done today Weather conditions in Vermont are changing now. We are about to hit a couple of days in the 40s with freezing rain and after that most days in the 10 day forecast are above freezing. We did a big push over the last two days while the conditions were...

Grooming in Vermont with 08 VK Pro

Cedar Logs I don't just groom all the time on my VK Pro. For the last two weeks since we've been in a snow drought, I've been pulling in cedar logs for a big fencing project next summer. I've been using my Ski Dolly on the front of my blue trailer and the combination works great. It is...

Grooming in Vermont with 08 VK Pro

Yes they are this year's slidekicks. I had last year's and they didn't last long. But this year's are much better. It's just the locking nuts that are problematic. I'll re-install the one I have with loctite, and hopefully find the other. I hadn't planned on the side by side comparison...

Grooming in Vermont with 08 VK Pro

Ski Scratchers I had a solid grooming run today in tough conditions. In Vermont we just had a couple of days of melt down - temperatures above 40 degrees F, and an inch of rain. Fortunately we have a solid base and this weather just made a mess on the surface. I was running with the...

Grooming in Vermont with 08 VK Pro

Hey Tolson, Yes I was running with the teeth down most of the time. It's been 10 days since we had that 12 inch dump of snow and not much since. If I kept the depth of cut at about 1/2" into the snow which is usually the way I try to run it, then everything carved the turns fine. The...

Grooming in Vermont with 08 VK Pro

Ski Dolly pulling the G2 Today I was out grooming for about 6 hours, covering about 40 miles, using the Ski Dolly pulling my G2. It was the best steering day I have had with the G2. The VK Pro had about 5 lbs of tongue weight from the Ski Dolly, compared to it's usual 60 lbs of tongue...

    boiling over

I'm the one who added a second radiator/fan setup. But my grooming application is extreme. Before you consider that $1000 add-on, since you have already done the obvious like changing the thermostate, then I would take it to your dealer and have them check it out. For most users when...

The next Yamaha Widetrack? 80FI-based pull-ease!

Well if you allow me to expand the topic slightly beyond just talking about the engine then I have lots more feedback. But I'll start with the engine. I would definitely like EFI. I was grooming a couple days ago and went through some really bumpy areas, got stuck, couldn't easily get...

Grooming in Vermont with 08 VK Pro

I assume you mean the rear pan is higher in the front and lower in the rear. That way a lot of snow can move through that area and it gets compressed by the end. But it would make it harder to back up. Is your groomer the other way around, rear pan lower in the front and higher in the rear?

Grooming in Vermont with 08 VK Pro

The Ski Dolly I have created yet another hitch in my never ending search for perfect steering. That means I want my steering to be just as tight when I have a groomer attached as compared to the VK Pro by itself. Here is the "Ski Dolly". It's basically a dolly on skis that takes on all...
