Difference between reverse and non reverse models?
About those years it became standard equipment instead of an option. Who makes the bearings? Yamaha usually uses NTN Japanese bearings. About as good as they get.
Why zero weight is my only question? 10 weight is
good to -40 f and 5 weight to -65 f. I lived in Fairbanks
in the 70's and at -59 had no problems with 10-30. Yamaha called for 5-30 in the Apex in 2008, and the motors haven't changed any.
And I don't believe for a minute that yamalube is...
Sounds like the oil rings collapsed from the heat.
Pull a compression check. If it's good you can run it
but expect fouled plugs. The only other thing that
would cause it would be valve guides and they usually
smoke on start up and deceleration the worst. You did
change the oil I hope.
I bought a puller off ebay (parts unlimited brand) and it buckled the thin part and button headed the end, never budged the primary. As it was buckling I thought the primary was coming. No damage to anything
but the tool. What brand do you guys use?
found this today: http://www.snowestonline.com/forum/arch ... 19191.html
Whhhaaattss up Loui. Once he pulls the motor down to work on it the head will be off and timing done etc so it's the best time to put in the manual tensioner. The benefit to the manual tensioner is that you set the...
If you freeze up a throttle cable you'll wish it was
there. There is a vid of a guy that had his disconnected and the sled took off at mach 4 with out
him. It found a tree about 100 yards later. It's just a switch that goes to a rev limiter circuit in the
ECU.
I don't think it is hydraulic. The oil dampens the load.
The spring should hold it. If it were me I would talk to
a Yamaha tech before taking the chance. Little slow around here as season is over with.
It's mobile 1 synthetic. Bought it local at a fuel supply
that is a mobil dealer. Check with your local airport fuel supplier. You can use the stuff on the clutch as well. Much better
lubricant than the beacon and shell and is fine at low
temps. -40 to 350 f. Enough they can lube
planes...
On the Apex: Put in Scotts steering bushings, mobile 1 grease, super smooth! changed oil and filter, set the toe, (poked it down a tree well late in the season) Sprayed the motor down with silicon. Should have it wrapped up tomorrow except for the clutches. Still have to build the tools for...
I am sure it is oil dampened, the new ones are hydraulic in 2011 or 2012 I believe. The manual says
to bleed all the oil out before installing so the spring
must do the job. A spring would bounce all over without oil in it and wear out quick. They can only be cycled so many times.
Just as...
I haven't done one of these motors yet so I just can't say. I would be asking the same questions. Now I see why you said the rub block in the valve cover is
going to hold it down. I think you are right and everything is ok. It's not actually jumping. Pretty experienced group here someone will...
Re: oil
My thoughts too? And all engines burn oil or they would burn the rings up. Most engines burn it at a slow enough rate that the contaminates being added to the oil make up the difference on the dipstick. It doesn't take much thought
to see there has to be some oil on the cylinder...
You said in your other thread this engine was new to
you. Did you replace the gears, chain and tensioner or
is this the old stuff? Even the vector has the nytro style tensioner now I believe. The older ones were
different. I wouldn't start it either until the problem is
resolved. Might be a...
