Mitch. We picked up two of Daves turbos and his complete clutching kit. Only have a 300 k's on it, so the entire setup is still tight. However, even tho now consistently turning 8890 rpm, still only seeing 100 mph. Want to put another 700 k's on it then will work on top end. Am still adjusting...
Yeah, I was really surprised with how good the 1.7 performs. Had my head set to swap out to a 1.25 before the ride, but now it's a love in with the consistent grab it has ..... and no penalty in handling in or accelerating through the corners either. Haven't had it up or over 110 mph yet tho, so...
Rode 200 miles on Saturday, 40 on hard lump, and the rest in heaven (perfectly groomed trails with an inch or two of powder on top)! 7.5 shapers inside and 6.0 shapers outside. It is not too much for aggressive trail riding at all, in fact could run more and still wouldn't be heavy. My opinion...
Running a 129 with 1.7 lugs. Do trail riding only, but like studs for ice traction on lakes or icy trails and brake assist. Put 200 miles on this past Saturday in Le Sarre. No issues with lightly studded track. Using 90 1.875 sud boys, 3/4 nuts, and oversize double backer plates (designed for 1...
Hey TD, thanks for your suggestions. I too do not believe the stock settings will be even close, but want some "set in" in the suspension before I start to tinker. Yamaha Canada rep said even the sno crossers are backing off (almost completely) the front skid.
Going out his weekend for first ride .... probably Temang or Rouyn area in Quebec. Do aggressive trail riding. First year on a Yamaha (Viper RTX LE 1.7). Have 7.5 shapers on inside and 6 inch shapers of outside. Hate push, but with the 1.7 track and trail turbo, expect some, so loaded up the...
If you want to retain the colour match and style of the original "guage warmer" to the sled, you can just screw it in over top of the replacement shield (whether it's a modified shape or standard). Takes a little jigging with the flares, but fits and looks good.
Only 1 mod to sled required for Hurricane. Have to cut out part of aluminum cover on exhaust side. Template provided and takes about 2 minutes to complete. This years can is bigger. It's from Hindle and is 10db quieter than last years reducing from last years 100db to 90db. That's half the...
14 seconds and I'm more than a little green! There's another recent thread that suggests that nothing touches the "quality" of the MPI setup ...... that everything else just looks like something that was installed in a back corner garage. I looked at both ........ an MPI installed by Yamaha reps...
We just got 2 out of the shop ..... but no snow good enough to run yet in Bracebridge. The RTX LE (Blue White) came with 21/49 gears, but we need top end, so installed 24/50's (Dave confirmed this would run out to about 120mph with the 1.7 track lightly studded with his complete clutching which...
Hey, just the messenger on what Allen emailed me after testing on his dyno. But what you say seems to confirm what Dave Marshall is getting (125 mph stock gears 24/50 on the Blue/Orange 1.25).
Yep, Allen says 105 tops with Ulmer clutching for the Blue/White LE. Dave Marshall says the standard RTX LE 1.25 will go 125 (perfect conditions) with Hurricane clutching and turbo. So I figured about 5 mph less for a 1.7 track and he agreed, but I don't know how nervous the back end may be at...
Hey Viper RTX, assume yours is Blue/White with the 1.7 track given your photo. If is is, you don't have trail gears (24/50) or trail chain (92P) like the Blue/Orange LE's. You have 21/49 gears and a 90P chain for snocross get up and go. So your top end won't be there. I just sent the Canadian...
It appears however that "not all RTX's are created equal" according to Ulmer (original post above). So if you happen to have a stock 2015 RTX LE Blue/White with the 1.7 track, you don't get 24/50 but rather 21/49. And it will top out at 105. I'm hoping to get more info on this next week.
I'm asking Dave Marshall about it and waiting for a reply. With any turbo and that gearing we should be getting to 105 very quickly. Unfortunately for me, I need another 10 (or better) on the top end where I trail ride, so don't mind giving up a little quickness for top end.
Received an email from ALLEN ULMER last night with the following info in it which was news to me, other purchasers, and my dealer.
"I have done about 15 MPI turbo installs now and have everything spot on with the clutching. On the trail MPI kits you should have no problems. The fuel controller...
Sent my clutches to Hurricane this week (actually 2 sets for two sleds) for Dave's set up which includes machining. You should call him and speak with him in detail about it. I see UR on a XTX while I have the RTX, so will be some changes. I almost did the MPI and Ulmer kit, but Dave had all the...
