i want to stud my 1.7 inch lug track on my new viper. Has anyone done this? Woodys say it should not be studded. Options? Love the track as it seems to hookup well on hard pack but I slide everywhere on the lake. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

i was hoping to avoid it as well. It seems necessary after riding it for a while though. Lots of track spin. Has anyone studded this length? Tunnel guards?

Track spin on what ice? I found that even moderatly packed trails mine just hooks and goes. On a lake with a couple inches of loose snow a carbide stud is not going to hook up either.

I'll be riding this weekend so I'll have a better idea on the traction. I'm just looking to see if anyone has studded this lug depth and if they had any pros/cons

Cat riders have studded them. Several of my friends run a 600 cat with the track. The studs bend at the sight if something in the trail. Because the stud is so long it's easy to bend or break one off. With a stud that length it puts considerable leverage on it and even on the lake you will be bending the track slightly just from running over it. As long as you are extremely mindful of what you ride on you can get away with studding the track IMO.

Running a 129 with 1.7 lugs. Do trail riding only, but like studs for ice traction on lakes or icy trails and brake assist. Put 200 miles on this past Saturday in Le Sarre. No issues with lightly studded track. Using 90 1.875 sud boys, 3/4 nuts, and oversize double backer plates (designed for 1 ply, but using them to add stiffness). There is no more flex in them than the shorter studs I used on on my previous 1.25's. So no problem and no issues.

Love the track. Hooks up great!! Put 240 miles on Saturday and only problem was on icy corners. May run the stud boys in the future with some added reviews.

My brother said it was like riding behind someone throwing snowballs at him..

Yeah, I was really surprised with how good the 1.7 performs. Had my head set to swap out to a 1.25 before the ride, but now it's a love in with the consistent grab it has ..... and no penalty in handling in or accelerating through the corners either. Haven't had it up or over 110 mph yet tho, so the test is still in the works.
