I have used a Garmin 76CSX for years and it fits nicely in a Yamaha tank bag. I found some black foam and cut a hole to match the GPS. Foam and GPS fits where a trail map would be. The cord runs to the 12v outlet and when the motor is running, the unit stays lighted. The unit produces a...
I sold my Polaris WT and picked up a VK in '08. I rode groomed trails with a group of regular sleds for a week to break her in. I loved the comfortable, warm ride and the very good milage. It is able to cruise easily at 70mph and 18mpg in ideal conditions is typical. As I became familiar...
I have been critical of my '08VK but after spending the past 6 days logging 1100 miles I must admit that I love this sled. The thing is a beast but for a heavy hauling cruiser I don't think it can be beat. The engine is so smooth and reliable that it makes up for the poor rear suspension. The...
Back to the original intent of this post...the Bearcat 570. I bet this would be an awesome sled with that 15"X151"X1.25" track. Too bad AC does not list weights because this looks to be in the 580 lb. range. You would need to build a rack and maybe add electric start. The gas tank is on the...
It is a small lake just north of Flagstaff Lake. We built a camp in '91 and love it for hunting, fishing and snowmobiling. ITS 89 runs within a mile of it between Eustis and Grand Falls. Check out springlakemaine.com
Hi Air19. Happy New Year!
Thanks for all the weight research. The difference between the various models is remarkable. The Expedition 600 would be nice to try out. My wife could use a new sled but she is really hung up on the superlight Renegade. I cannot see her getting enthused about a...
Hi Air19. Happy New Year!
Thanks for all the weight research. The difference between the various models is remarkable. The Expedition 600 would be nice to try out. My wife could use a new sled but she is really hung up on the superlight Renegade. I cannot see her getting enthused about a...
So there's no interest out there for the 600SDI Expedition, eh? This model interests me due to the light weight. I understand the lure of the 4-stroke but I miss not being able to go anywhere off-trail like I could with the old Polaris WT. I think the new 600 Wide Track is quite alot heavier...
That sounds like great performance. The VK is good for just over 90 if the conditions are just right. I was trying to get the best machine that would break trail 5 miles into camp while towing a large Otter sled loaded with stuff. It does that well. I also groom 10 miles of trails when we...
I've only looked at the BC Z1 but is sure seemed like it has some features I would like. Primarily the rear suspension. The bumpers & rack are nice too. Oh yeah, gas tank capacity. I'm sure there are more.
One of the guys I ride with has a 660 Bearcat and he loves it. It is a bit low on...
I meant to write "sleding weekend" for the youtube search. Regarding the Bearcat a-arm damage, the guy crossed a little stream and caught a ski...stopped him dead and probably he screwed up his knee. Anyway, a later weekend he busted the a-arm which was likely related to the previous accident...
Hey Crossbome...
Did you see the Yellowknife segment when the Bearcat got off trail and busted his a-arm? The close-up video of the break made me appreciate how much stronger the VK a-arms seem to be. I got into those videos by using "sleding adventure". There are 25 different 10 minute...
Wow! If the highjacker can lift the FRONT of a VK then that jack has real capability. I can't wait for mine to arrive. When I looked at the web site it showed lifting lightweight mountain sleds which would be something two guys could lift...maybe 250# or so.
I agree that pulling a heavy...
There's some great YouTube showing the Bearcat Z1 in action. Search this site for "Yellowknife" who posted dozens of his adventures with his Yamaha mountain sleds and his friend's Bearcat. I'm not sure the new Bearcat is dramatically better than the VK. The Bearcat rear suspension is better...
Thanks VKbcnorth. Yours is all the recommendation I need.
I picked 500# because of the gear in the rack and how the machine overall must be close to 1000# all gassed and ready to roll.
The HiJacker would solve a problem I have when dragging trails and burying the back of the sled. The...
I have carried a Maasadam rope puller and 100' of 1/2 rope in three sleds over 16 years. I have used it only twice but I would not ride without it. I have used the rope many times and I also carry two 1/2" marine sailing pulleys...light weight, no rust and strong. I pulled my VK up hill using...
I'm with Wayne regarding the Polaris WT. I had a '94 and then a 2000. I loved them both but I needed more power and speed. The VK has both and is nice on those long 70 mph runs on groomed trails. Boondocking with the Polaris WT was fun but the VK is top heavy beyond belief. I rolled mine...
Does anyone think the 2010 Skidoo Expedition with a 600SDI would be a good utility sled? I like my wife's '07 Renegade SDI. She did bend the nose when her ski caught a gate post...$800 in parts. But I think most machines would have been damaged given the same hit. Maybe Skidoo's frames are...
I thought that iso was not effective with the new E10 gas. I also used to use Heet in the red bottle with each fill-up. Maine switched to E10 two years ago and now I add a little blue Stabil now when the sled sits for a week or more.
Is Heet still a good thing to use? I noticed tons of it...
