I’ve read the same thing but I think that was only on reverse cases, non-reverse Nytros did not have that same issue from what I remember. I think I’ll make the aluminum washer so it’s tight but the bolt bottoms out on the shaft as the washer hits the gear. Can’t imagine having any issues that...

Waiting on new flex joints to get here before I make the turbo mount so I’m working on some other stuff. Can anyone with Apex knowledge confirm if the gear is suppose to be off the end of the driveshaft? I’m 99% sure my spacers and gear are from a Apex. Reason for asking is I was thinking of...

Header bracket. Made from 3 pieces of .040 chromoly plate welded together, made it as light as possible. Had originally planned on 0.25 lbs for this and it came in at 0.06 lbs so I saved quite a bit. Time will tell if it holds up. Need to tack weld it still and then I’ll finish weld it next...

Yes, I am floating the clutch a little and alignment is perfect.

Nytro just uses a clip as well but the clutch side has the bearing pressed on the shaft that’s held in place in the bearing housing. Factory Apex bearing setup has a taper lock that locks it to the jackshaft as well. My clutch side bearing is a regular bearing with lock ring, so in theory, the...

Cut the rear suspension mount tubes at an angle to reduce weight. And drilled a hole in the lower steering post bushing mount to match the upper and reduce weight. I don’t think there’s anything else I can do to drop weight from the frame. Had some surface rust from sitting. Wire brushed...

That’s a great idea, I could tack weld a nut to the end of the jackshaft. My plan was to thread it before cutting the end off anyway.

Can you elaborate on “doesn’t feel right”? Just if it’s really difficult or will it not cut the threads properly? Is there something specific I should be paying attention to when tapping?

My lathe is too small to fit the shaft inside, bore on the chuck is only 3/4”. Threads will have to be cut by hand. My plan was to make a spacer to go over the end of the jackshaft with a hole just big enough to fit the tap to help keep it straight while tapping the first few threads.

Framing is being left as is, consulted an engineer buddy and his advice was to leave it alone. I ordered the spindle bolt and a thread tap this morning. Going to try tapping threads in the jackshaft and see how it goes.

Need opinions. I’ve always had doubts about the snap ring setup I made due to the side load from the driven clutch slamming open. Here is what I’ve been thinking of doing. Cutting end of the shaft a fuzz shorter then the end of gear, hand tapping 14mm x 1.5 threads (same as clutch bolt) and...

After failing to build my own inner wheel kit last year I found the BDX kit for $80 shipped from Speed Addicts so I bought it. There was more play than I like so I turned down the spacers a little bit to where the factory steel washers would fit and took 75% of the play out. 42.4 lbs...

I don’t know if I could go any thinner on the wall thickness without risking breakage. I’ve used .058 on posts before with no issues. I don’t know how .049 would hold up. Steering isn’t an area I want to find the threshold on.

Finished the steering post. Tedious job but then so is everything. Did not leave myself any room for the steering stop so I removed the end of the bushing that wasn’t making contact with the plate. Took forever to get the steering stop filed perfect so it would make contact right before my...

Appreciate the input, I won’t make any decisions quite yet. My thought was that with how light AC builds the upper a-arms and the small hardware they use, there can’t be that much force on the upper a-arms with their suspension design or guys wound be breaking bolts and bending a-arms.

Welded the upper bracket. Made the lower bracket out of .040 to keep the weight down, it was only 27g. I almost scrapped having a 2nd lower bushing, didn’t seem like it was needed but figured it might make the upper last longer. Only ended up being 0.24 lbs for both steel brackets. Next...

Going to be be well under the .5 lb goal for both brackets. I got the top one below 83 grams. Was so focused on weight I forgot to make it large enough for the steering stop. I’m either going to cut the bushing down to make room or put the stop against the lower bushing, undecided right now...

1 hole straight thru the center. I think with the newer hollow shafts there just isn’t much focus on the old stuff anymore.

U-joint welded and post taped in place to make the bushing mounts. Goal is 0.5 lbs for both mounts.
