See my post "updating to 2017 or newer chain case - warning " for one surprise I ran into. Don't buy new either. Get your parts from Travis at Barn of Parts.
If you get the newer inner case you are going to have to also get the M6 x 2.0 x 24mm bolts that go through the tunnel and thread directly into the back of the inner case. The bolts in your 2014 inner case are an M6 x 1.0 x 30mm thread and they will not thread into the 2016-2017 inner case. I...
The bolts I am talking about are those that thread directly into the case. I believe you are talking about those that go through the case and have a nylok nut to secure them.
Look up the "Track Drive 2" schematic for a 2017 'Winder or Viper. The screw I am talking about is Item #38.
The old bolts/threads are fine thread and both the old and new a M6 diameter so I don't see how you could tap the newer course 2.0 thread and make it the older fine 1.0 thread. Either you are going to have to get the bolts that came with the case you buy or order part number 8JP-RA283-00-00...
Since the M6 x 2.0 x 24 bolts are the same as those used to secure the oil tank to the outer case so they could eliminate the old one and take advantage of a higher volume and thus lower cost for the newer screw. Also, they are self tapping so no more time, equipment, people needed to tap the...
If you are upgrading your chain case to a 2017 or new inner case and bearing, you will also have to get the (11) torx-drive screws that secure the inner case to the chassis. Previous years used an M6 x 1.0 x 20 button head cap screw. The 2017 and newer cases use an M6 x 2.0 x 24 self tapping...
You and I are on the same page! I am going to add a full 16 floz. of synthetic oil and an additive to make it "stickier". I am also going to pack the jack shaft bearing with Mobile1 synthetic moly lube grease. I did swap the $#!+y wobble bearing and locking collar out for the '17 and new jack...
I just got off of the 2006 Apex that I bought because the person that had it dared me to buy it for cheaper than I bought it. He had no idea what he had and didn't know what it was worth and I bought it because I had to. After riding it for the last 150 miles why the h*** would I want to get...
