I used the SSI cover. The bearing thickness on the SSI cover is 16.76mm verses 14.84mm for the stock cover. I think if all the aftermarket are billet, I would want the one with the biggest bearing. I dont know what the others are. Perhaps someone can chime in.
As an FYI, I ended up with one...
Guys,
Got a question regarding TAPP springs?
Is anyone using a spring that is 90 - 190 or 200lb Spring? I would like to lower my engagement to around 3000 RPMs on mt Tcat . When I had the TAPP on my 1100, I was able to have it engage at around 3000 rpms with the blue TAPP spring. It is...
Backyard mechanics are we all !
At least on these new sleds we are not changing jets at zero degrees outside to account for barometric pressure and cold temps. LOL
Indeed it does. My best was 136 on my old Modstock turbo 1100. It felt unsafe after 125. Breaking 140 requires really good conditions and cajónes! I kept the stock gearing in my Tcat. Thats about 118-120 at best. I will leave that way. I spend more time drag racing my buddies than speed runs. I...
The whiplash from COVID's effect on inflation and supply chain was not sustainable. High pricing and low demand is not a good formula for success. Cat made a big investment in tooling and engines to create the Catalyst line while Yamaha bailed out. Any company needs a reasonable ROI on their...
What an awful kick in the xxx's ! It appears to me that Textron is preparing for a fire sale or liquidating the company. Looks like we will all be stockpiling parts for our Tcats and Winders.
The real benefit of the power steering is at low speed, especially when you have a lot of carbide. The faster the speed, the less the power steering is felt.
I run dual 8 inch shapers. The EPS does care how much carbide is there. I also run 1.575 gold diggers, 5 per bar. Both the shapers and the gold diggers last a very long time.
I generally go through all wear items in my clutches every couple of seasons. Unless the sheaves crack, replacing a few parts is no big deal. Cost of doing business.
Over time at least on the 998, we have seen a wear pattern on Dalton weights from normal use. My riding partner sent a set with about 4000 miles on them back to Dalton. They gave him another set at a ( prorated ) cost. I was thinking that the wider weights on a wider roller may show less wear. I...
I was looking at this new adapt on an 858 this morning. With the wider rollers and the improvement to the tower/cover, I think this will be a better clutch. With wider weights maybe we won`t have wear pattern on the weights that we see with current set up.
Put it on the lowest setting for removal for less tension. You can also use that tool to put it back on the block when you put the skid back in once you get used to the tool.
The instructions from mike800 below is correct. The only thing I would add is once you put the fork of the tool on the short end of the spring twist it counterclockwise while lifting it off. In the past, If someone does not have the tool, you can do what cannondale27 wrote.
We never unhook the...
Normally those wheels are almost a press fit and usually require a puller to take them off. Replacing the axle mount piece is a good idea. Normally once that is tightly installed it never moves. These sleds sometimes remind me of old big blocks. They find ways to break things. LOL
