We got a bonus 6 to 10" late March snowfall and I did a 150 mile+++ ride today ....and I am to happy to report my SW performed flawlessly though out the entire ride.
I am still skeptical but maybe my issue was simply water in the fuel, I guess I tend to over complicate running issues when it...
I had a XR350 in the 1980s that was doing that exact same thing, I initially thought it was the CDI but a valve adjustment is what cured the problem. The big difference there was it was a single cylinder so it couldn't run with any valve slightly open The odds of my SW having a valve...
I have removed as much of the old fuel from the tank as I could . Fresh 91 octane fuel in the tank now with added isopropyl so any fuel issues should be eliminated. Long ride planned soon so I will know by the weekend.
I have not...yet...but it is towards the end of my list of possible causes and things to check after the fuel pump and then stator/pickup.
I know I have read that on Apexs the valve clearance tightening up can cause stalling and Idle issues but my SW symptoms were dissimilar and came on...
I have had the Razorback belt temp gauge on my SW since fall of 2019. This season the gauge occasionally would flash message that it had no signal from the temp sensor. Today, over 5 years later, I called Razorback and they are sending me a new updated dimmable version of the gauge and sensor...
I am still not convinced the issue was the fuel but I am hoping that was it. We just got 6" of fresh snow and we have a real good base on our trails still so I will get a couple good rides in this week and should know if stalling is cured or not after that.
No where near half the jar....maybe 3 oz or so of water in the 1 liter sample. It would indicate that there could have been a significant volume of water in the 5 gallons of fuel remaining in the tank.
After I drained the fuel from the sled I kept it off to the side in a separate fuel container. After the gas had sat all day I pulled some fuel from the bottom of the jerry can into a clear 1 liter glass jar and let it sit over night....well...sure enough today, when I checked it, there was a...
I put 3 gallons of fresh 91 Octane in the sled today and rode it for about an hour and had no issues. I even tried to get it into high temp limp mode but could not get it to do it as the BOP Rad kept it just under limp mode even sitting idling excessively.
I guess I will just ride it for now as...
I have two complete sets of clutches with different calibrations.
One primary and secondary are set up for performance/snow drags and the other set is calibrated for trail riding.
The performance set up is for the 300 tune, engages @ 4500rpm so I can take advantage of launch control, and uses a...
I have checked all of the out of tank fuel pump electrical connections and they seem fine.
Dave from Hurricane had some suggestions for trouble shooting as well.
If it quits again:
- check the fuel pressure gage as if the pump was running there would be residual fuel pressure
- does the gage...
Sled has run without a flaw or hickup for years until it just quit...started up and ran normal until it quit again....very strange indeed.
We did a 200 mile day ride and it used way less fuel then any other sled perfect until it wasn't.
Its too bad I wasn't data logging at the time.
I have pretty well all Hurricane tunes and accessories on my Header Tuned SW and I am 110% satisfied with Hurricane and Dave's customer care even helping me with issues unrelated to his products. . I would definitely stick with Hurricane[for me] or TD as they both use the Gap flasher and...
Items eliminated as the cause of sled quitting:
-fuel suction
-tank venting
-battery or its connections
-voltage regulator
-fuel pump connections
-fuse box relay
-fuel return to tank
Question:
Has anyone had a stator or pickup coil issue without it throwing a code?
I just drained all the fuel and put in 1/2 gallon or so of fresh 91 octane and it starts and runs no problem .I drove it around the property for quite a bit and it seemed normal so its not a fuel pickup problem...of course it never did quit.
