That is some crazy miles on an original belt!
This is a picture of my first belt from many years ago. It was old and rotten. It blew up near the North West Angle.
Interesting. I wasn't sure if it was a belt issue or an alignment issue but it just could be cause of miles on it. I've never had a belt blow clean through. Just the tops come off. I have always ran the 8DN belt.
Anyone come up with a good way to mount a gps on a RS sled? I mounted one to my handle bar but its not a great place. If it was close to the tach it would be a lot easier to look at while riding. I was debating on buying a Garmin Tread.
Apple TV is the way to go but its not cheap. Sound and video quality is first rate. I have it tied into my Denon reciever. I also have the Firestick 4k. It was so glitchy when I first bought it.
That’s my worse nightmare lol. I love my sled but it would be a tough call gambling on a used engine.
Maybe a defective connecting rod? Or bad batch. Hard to say.
I’ve taken apart two car engines that jumped significant timing. It was very obvious impact marks on the piston and the timing...
Ignition timing. At least that’s what I was told.
Full choke. Crank it. Keep the choke on for less than a minute and start back it off. Give it a couple of braps of throttle. Mine will idle low around 1000 rpm. Once the sled has been fully warmed up by riding it, the idle rpm’s sit at 1400...
As I mentioned earlier, have you tried to sync the carbs? I had an issue of a slight hesitation/stumble. I cleaned the carb, which were already clean so it made no difference. Turns out both my carbs were out of sync with the first carb. I adjusted and the sled has never ran so good. Ever. I...
Timing chain rattling around? Maybe a guide broke. Sure doesn't sound good. Get a stethoscope and see if you can hear where its coming from. Over my Macbook speakers it sounds like a higher pitch than a rod bearing.
Only other suggestion is to sync the carbs. Maybe one or multiple are out of adjustment. Syncing really only helps the initial step in of the throttle which sounds like the issue you are having.
Yamaha sleds are done. Accept it. There is no law saying they have to make parts for 10 years. Internet nonsense. There is already lots of RS/FX parts that have been discontinued.
Bold new graphics and kick it out the door. Pocket the cash and turn the light out. That's Yamaha's plan.
