Most likely the crack is inboard from where the bushing stops.
The shaft with no bushing has more surface area to distribute the load to lessen the stress. The bad thing is when the arm wears out from no bushing it gets replaced....

Took a piece of old mid pipe heat shield and applied red silicone to it and put over that area attaching to mid pipe heat shield.
Have been watching to see how it holds up.
So far so good.
Still would like a "SR Viper" style heat shield to fit over header.
I really like the design of the air...
That exactly where I was referring to.
Cover that gap so no direct line from header over valve cover and down some so heat shield protects valve cover gasket area.
Make sure to add some heat shield to the "mid pipe" shield to protect valve cover and coil. My heat shield sits higher up on the header and heat started to melt the coil.
Best to keep as much heat shield as possible. I had cut mine where you have marked. That section gives support to the top area which will help keep it in position.
Due to the lack of snow last winter I drove my sidewinder once last year. Doc you get up my way I'll have to see if I can keep up with ya.
Maybe I'll get the cover off it this weekend and pump the old gas out...
