Ya I got my offset at 58.5mm and my secondary still gets hot as well. Not sure if thats just the way they are or if someone has had success in keeping them cool. Running the XS825 also

    Cycling????

So thats the fix Bob to get rid of that noise, remove the diaphragm from the vent valve? Ya it does it constantly, never seems to stop, letting the pressure out is only a temporary fix as minutes later it's back, lol!:o|

    Cycling????

OMG, lol!! When I disconnect the battery the cycling type noise stopped but only momentarily,( coincidence) then started doing it again, haha!!! I just took the gas cap off , low and behold, the sound stopped, lol!! Well, thanks Mike for the easy fix.....I do however feel like an idiot, lol!

    Cycling????

I noticed today my winder has something cycling when it is not running and the key is off . It cycles about every 10 seconds and runs for about 3 to 4 seconds. At first I thought it was the beer fridge ( in garage) but nope, it's coming from the sled, disconnected the battery to confirm. It...

    Last Yamaha Sidewinder auction

I guess the final Sidewinder is apparently supposed to be # "998" built. Your right though, which model will be the "actual" last one produced....

    Measuring offset

Ok, we are getting somewhere now, when you said " if it only floats before engagement what would it matter", it matters because that was the question that I was answering from RB200. I dont think anybody read his question as everybody was talking about actual clutch float and not what the...

    Measuring offset

So when the belt is up as far as it can go on the secondary and the bolt with the washer is pushing against the helix, does the secondary slide back and forth on the jackshaft or not? Mine does not and any of the winders with those washers that you are talking about for deflection adjustment...

    Measuring offset

Thanks for the explanation and I do understand they have float when the clutch is in motion, am I wrong in saying they do not have float at idle ( when the secondary isnt turning? RB200 was comparing his Sidewinder to his old Viper saying that the secondary had float, was able to slide back and...

    Measuring offset

Hmmm, as you know, these clutches utilize washers behind the secondary bolt to adjust the belt deflection. By removing washers the bolt pushes the helix/inner sheave inn dropping the belt lower between the sheaves, adding washers raises the belt in the sheaves. If there was float at idle the...

    Measuring offset

Correct, the Sidewinder secondary's do not have any float

    Measuring offset

When measuring the clearance behind the secondary remove the spring so you can easily push the movable sheave to full shift out, it will stop once it is there. It will not go past that point when the spring is in place and WOT, if anything, might not even reach that point.

    Measuring offset

Ok I guess they all can be a bit different. I put a very small bead of grease on the back side of my secondary, installed it on the jackshaft then pushed the inner sleeve all the way in and the grease touched the frame on the sled. Didn't flatten it so I was ok, probably 1 to 2mm clearance.

    Measuring offset

fatchance, did you try your secondary without the spring after milling 3mm off the shaft to see what you had for clearance at full shift out? Mine was close to frame part that the jackshaft bearing went into and I only took off 2mm and kept the washer behind the clutch.

    Measuring offset

Yes but the newer Winders are a bit different then the older ones, more offset is recommended, not sure of the numbers though

    OEM vs Ultimax

That is an awesome, descriptive comparison between the OEM 8JP, 8DN and the Ultimax XS825 Steve! The 8DN seems to be a very good choice at a fair price, the XS825 is more money, a bit better but cost more and brings the rpm down do to better grip. I just ordered and received the XS825, this...
