144 is IDEAL. The XTX actually handles better than the other Apex sleds.....the tipped up rails work excellent in this regard.
It transfers well, steers without pushing and when setup well ( Star kit) rides excellent.
I am fairly certain longer than 144 will become heavy and pushy tho....as...
I also concur......the xtx144 is THE ideal version of the Apex
Any less track simply squanders the Apex instantaneous torque and vicious midrange power
Also the way the Apex chassis is laid out the 144 isnt too long unlike other sleds.....
More of the track is under and forward of the rider...
Im on my 2nd Star kitted XTX
Both times had Star revalve the shocks which entails them slightly shortening the front shock to prevent overtravel.
Zero issues and I punish my gear.
I researched the Star kit extensively before engaging with it and didnt find a single negative comment...
The XTX version of the Nytro is an excellent sled.
13 saw a couple of really big improvements to the Nytro....Extrovert drivers and much better handlebar heaters.
These are significant as the tyro ratchets the track badly......big torque and efficient clutching put a big demand on the track...
Im on my 2nd XTX and have done the Star kit both times.
The kit improves the skid in every way.....specifically addresses the sag and wooden feeling the XTX is known for.
The kit is well made, works well and is not overly expensive either....winwinwin
You can install the linkage kit and run...
Yes Ive searched, yes there are a lot of relay threads.
Seems Yammie mixes up the placement of the fuel relay on almost every year of sleds??
Ive had a Nytro and 2 Apexes and they are all in different locations as far as grouped together.
Anyway...there are 4 relays....3 are replaceable by...
Considering a Exup delete header for my 2013 XTX.
Sled is currently stock, 10k km on it....runs awesome.
Exup is currently operating properly.
when this season comes to a close I will likely be doing the donuts.
figuring the exude cable are likely on their last legs...and the headers may have...
Roger that.
Yes...shocks without separate rebound/compression clickers make it hard to get what you want.
I have been learning that the GYTR are pretty decent shock in quality and function...even stock valving isn't bad??
I am pursuing a set of used ones here on the board.
Thanks for the info...
I sense the sarcasm...
I have plenty of experience in having suspension revalved/setup....sometimes yes U have to pay for significant improvement. Sometimes a revalve/setup of the stockers is a surprising improvement for lil $$
I also recognize the limitations of a shock regardless of its...
2013 Apex xtx
Star kit with their revalved skid shocks
Whats a good upgrade for ski shocks?
Gytr clickers
Ohlins
Floats
Elkas
Looking to upgrade
Looking for actual experiences feedback
Thx
The oem ripsaw is a poor loose/deep snow track and the oem skis don't float well either.
And the XTX is HEAVY.
Curve XS skis help float the front a lot better and any track with a full block type pattern is better than the ripsaw in loose/deep snow.
Trail breaking where there is something...
Show us some pics??
Dealer install or yourself?
Will likely be an uphill warranty battle if U did your own work.
Sounds like maybe ice damage??
Sometimes the big ice chunks that the Apex grows can do damage to the exhaust/heat exchangers and sometimes the track.
Detailed pics and an...
Not to scare you away from it but...
2011 and newer Apex have EXUP.
The headers are Titanium and EXPENSIVE to replace. Think a couple grand
They can be easily cracked from either ice chunks and or vibration and hard use. They are often cracked in places that can't be easily seen...
The engine isn't a worry...as long as its had regular oil changes and never run dry and or on its side.....its bulletproof.
The rest of the sled is ..well...just another sled.
Have the clutches been worked on? If not they're soon if not now due for some $$ tossed at em.
Jackshaft and chaincase...
The XTX is an excellent trail sled.
IMO it is the best handling Apex chassis.
The tipped up rails and how Yamaha positions the skid in the chassis not only do you not feel like you are on a longtrack sled I think it handles better than the short tracks.
The #*$&@ end isn't constantly trying to...
I am also very interested in how the Slingshot skid is working?
Especially this year with the updated Fox shock?
Anyone with an older sled that had the updated shock installed replacing the crappy original shock?
The only update was the improved shock itself...no changes to the skid correct...
