First weekend with the new flash update. I have a 2014 and 2015 LTX. Yamaha still has not figured this out. Clearly they don’t have a solution. They are trying to get it to the point to not destroy the starter but the result is a crappy starting process. Both of my sleds have different results...
After reading about all these reports of the speedo being off I thought I would check mine. The speedos are spot on for my 2014 and 2015 which were one of the first to have the flash done back in November. My dealer who was one of the first to know about the November flash release says he sees...
I have been very happy with the flash update on my horrible starting 2014. Since the flash, no kickbacks and it started in temps down to -15. I have done it on both my 14 and 15. Strangely they seem to start more often on the first crank when colder than warmer temps but like most commenting...
They called it starter relay and it sits on battery. I watched as they diagnosed and ran through a series of tests and they would clear codes and it would code again until they replaced the part. Here is a picture of the replaced part. Note the corrosion coming out.
Just back from dealer the starter relay failed and created all of the related issues. A $20 part but you need to clear the OBD codes and that would require having a OBD code reader and yamaha adapter to plug into sled. Rock River Motorsports dealership was awesome! Fixed it while I waited.
My 2014 is a certified POS, 2 blown starters, multiple starting problems, and now this. Out of 11 weekends I've had to trailer to dealership 3 times. I have bought Yamaha for reliability and this sled has zero. The day before it started at
-15 degrees and ran all day without issue, had me...
Battery disconnected for 5 minutes and still coded and beeped when battery replaced. Battery ruled out swapped in a new one. Out of options I'm willing to screw around with taking to dealer.
Thanks for the information but I'm curious if your fuel pump even cycle that all. The battery is at 12.6 amps. The cranks over but no fuel pump kicks in.
Thanks for the suggestion. After I thought back on the starting sequence it cycled the first time but when it didn't start and I turned off and on the key again it didn't cycle again. Fuel pump is clearly not working.
Suggestions and help needed. My 2014 ran and started great yesterday in temps 0 to -15 degrees. This am at -4 it would turn over but not fire. The sled was inside and on a better tender. My battery eventually drained. Charged battery all day. Fully charged I go to start the sled and the alarm...
You need to crank the key in quite a bit and it should start moving the clutch. I can't see how you could turn it to far without seeing the clutch move and I don't see how you could be misaligned. I have it on both of my Vipers and it works great!
So far very happy, I'm hoping but some reported after flash it didn't start in cold weather at -6. So I needed to test this am at -12 and both passed. My 2014 is definitely starting better so far.
I have very good news to report on the flash update. My 2014 LTX on its 3rd starter and horrible cold starting was a real test. My 2015 LTX started fine. Here is my take so far. Battery always on tender and on same gas. Stock sled with no changes.
After flash update in temps mid 20's both sled...
