Are you saying that you put a stock gasket on each side of the headshim? I was told to split the stock gasket and put half on each side of the shim and spray the sides without coating with copper spray. I was hesitant, but that is want the directions said. What is the compression ratio with 2...
Retorquing the head
Dave, Jim, Ted... or anybody else... it appears that the head is lifting during hard acceleration. Does anyone know what the odds are of a retorque with out new gaskets are of working? He took the sled out today and rode for and hour or so without any hard acceleration and...
I pulled the coolant from the oil cooler line as per impulses instructions. The coolant looks clean and has nothing floating in it. The radiator gets hot and when the engine is shut off, the coolant will actually boil out of the overflow...sometimes, but not everytime. So...how many are...
Haven't been able to ride it. It overheats within the first 30 minutes of the ride.
What's everyone's thoughts on just retorquing the head and not puting in a new gasket? Or should we just bite the bullet and take the head off. Not that much work to retorque, except for the stupid spot...
Re: Head gasket
Yeah, I watched the torque wrench. I noticed it was very high torque compared to the apex. We used the head shim with a stock gasket split and put on each side of the shim. Also used permatex copper spray on the bare surfaces.
Re: Head gasket
Dave, that is exactly what I thought, but we used the block tester that is supposed to detect exhaust gases in the coolant and found none.
The last time we ran it, when the guy stopped, coolant blew out of the overflow. Other than that, there was no sign of it blowing...
Yes, that is the torque I used. I've bled this thing so many times...it's crazy. Won't overheat till you ride it. Bought a block tester and tested the coolant for exhuast gases. No sign of gases in the coolant. It really acts like an air pocket, but I'm running out of ideas on ways to get...
Little problem guys, hope you can help... Put together an impulse nytro a couple weeks ago and having problems. It runs awesome, it idles great, it'll sit and idle for an hour and not overheat. Go for a ride and about a half hour into the ride the, temperature light comes on, but the sled...
Does anyone have the specs handy for the changes in cam timing? I'm helping a guy do an install and he has his kit and no instructions yet. The shim and gasket is .088 thick giving 9.1:1 ratio.
Also...does anyone have the torque specs for the head? Thanks
No wideband yet unfortunately
I have a narrowband and it already runs rich at the lowest fuel setting on the pure logic box. Typically, would I expect it to get richer or leaner at idle with the BOV? Thanks Ted
OK
I just went through a similiar issue. Mine turned out to be the pressure line going to the boost controller was torn. I would check for vacuum leaks. Where is your boost gauge and fuel controller pulling readings from(intercooler or throttle bodies)? If it is from the intercooler, you...
Thanks for the response
Thanks Hammer. I'm not riding it. I had to limp it out on Sunday. I think I just found the problem. The line going to the fuel controller was torn. It caused that fault. I'm going to change the oil and put new plugs in and try it out. Thanks again for the response.
Will fault code 14(intake pressure sensor) on apex which fail safes the intake pressure to 85kpa(~12 psi) cause the motor to run extremely rich? thanks guys
I wanted to publicly thank Jim Manning for his help recently. I bought a used turbo kit from him and have it running great now. Jim was instrumental along the way in helping with the install of the turbo as well as advising me while doing the extra head gaskets install. I'm sure I bugged him...
Well...
I got in touch with the installer for the guy I bought the kit from. Apparently the "fast/too fast" switch failed on him last year and he has been leaving it at the boost it was set at. Didn't bother replacing it or fixing it. That makes me feel better. This is an easy fix. I'll...
Update
I couldn't wait till after work. ;)! I just went and tried it just tightening up the fitting on the boost gauge. I now hit 8lbs of boost. BUT... I get 8psi whether the switch is on high or low boost. Could the switch be bad. Stuck open?
How would you bench test this?
