I have not had any cooling problems 900+ miles, I have pulled the head light out, so I am sure that helps.

Retorquing the head
Dave, Jim, Ted... or anybody else... it appears that the head is lifting during hard acceleration. Does anyone know what the odds are of a retorque with out new gaskets are of working? He took the sled out today and rode for and hour or so without any hard acceleration and it did not overheat. He then went for a pull and mid climb he blew the overflow cap right off. Tested with the block tester and it showed exhaust gases in the coolant.
Are we wasting our time retorquing without new gaskets or has anyone else had success doing this? FYI, we never did have any black flakes in the coolant.
If I pop the cams out and find loose head bolts, I would assume that a retorque should work? If they are not loose, probably new gaskets...???

I would pull it apart clean the shim and surfaces with acetone, do not spray anything on them, put new stock gaskets with stock coating on both sides, retork and it should not leak. keep all surfaces and gaskets clean and dry, I try not to even touch the gasket surface with my fingers.

Are you saying that you put a stock gasket on each side of the headshim? I was told to split the stock gasket and put half on each side of the shim and spray the sides without coating with copper spray. I was hesitant, but that is want the directions said. I had this happen on my head without boost. You runnign arp head studs or stock and what TQ did you go to?

no split the stock gasket but make sure the both are coated with the stock black coating on both sides, I suspect its the copper spray causing your problem, you don,t need arp studs on the nytro, I have been running up to 22lbs. with no problems. I actually went with three stock gaskets instead of the shim. but I am at 10.000 ft. so I wanted to raise the compression alittle and avoid any leakage problems with the shim. stock gasket is .020 and the mcx shim is .075 so thats a total of .095, I went 3 stock at .060 so I am still .040 more than stock but I do run good fuel and am at 10,000 ft.
