A friend has an '03 RX1 and there is a noticeable ticking sound coming from the central part of the engine, almost seems like somewhere under the valve cover. It is the most noticeable around 4-5000 rpm but then seems to go away above that. Don't really hear it at idle, sled has to be moving. Recently it has gotten louder. Any ideas as to what is causing this.

Exhaust donuts and or Y pipe and or header pipe

He changed the donuts but there is still another leak because it will not stall out when the exhaust is plugged. Hopefully that is all it is, he was thinking cam chain, valves rocker arm etc...

Shortly after I did my donuts it got loud again. One of the small header pipes that go between the donut and the head cracked. Maybe that is your problem.

X2 on the header pipe cracking. Found a used set of 4 for like $30 bucks. Replaced the cracked one and good to go no more noise. Plus have spares now
