i had the same problem on the weedend. i have over 6000 miles on it so i decided to replace the teflon sliders in the secondary clutch and i changed my cam position to 3-3. i got back to normal rpm's after that. it still takes a few seconds to get to 10200rpm but i was told that this is normal.

with 7000 miles on your sled i would put new primary and secondary
springs in also take sec. apart clean and put in new bushing, it would
help also on primary to do the same, i run a 911 response cover it
works real well. also if your running air box check the foam inside
it may need cleaning, to have a fine tuned sled you must spend some
time on it.

Don't want to start a fight, but I think your problem is elsewhere. If you've got 7000 miles on your original belt, that tells me your clutches haven't been molested. In my experience, if you don't molest the clutches on a RX-1 you won't notice any wear and tear till about 18000 miles. Sounds to me like your problem is with the ignition coils. Let the sled idle in the dark and check to make sure you don't have fire jumping from your spark plug caps. Next remove sparkplugs and make sure the threaded tips aren't all gouged up. Put new plugs with dialectric grease on tips and retest. Just my 2 cents. Let me know how you make out.

I think Pat the Rat nailed it. I had checked with the service manager with Winnipeg Yamaha. He said he felt it was a secondary problem and said to check the bushings. Did that today and found that the bushings (teflon sliders) that run up the ramp on the secondary one was gone. I assume that is going to be the problem. I am going to change them all tomorrow.

I had the exact same problem last year with one of the shoes falling off on the secondary along with the exact same symptoms. It also occured at around the same mileage.
My dealer insisted that the secondary needed a complete rebuild because of this, including all bushings. $300 later (or something like that - wasn't covered under warranty) my sled was running right again.

I went throught 2 sets of ramp buttons, before I changed the bushing in the sheave, and that took care of the issue.
