I've got a 04 turbo RX! and yesterday the yellow warning light started flashing two long and one short flashes. I have a manual for the 03 and it says it's the TPS. What does the TPS do on a carbureted sled ? All I can think of is it must adjust the timing according to throttle position.

That is correct.

I rode it for a day last weekend with it doing this. Would that be causing it to use more gas than normal ? It was running rich and misfiring in the midrange.

Ignition map out of wack because of faulty TPS.
Compture putting ignition into fail safe mode because of fautly Readings from the TPS.
Ohm the resistance on the TPS Connector, check With the book what it should read. If out of sped the TPS is shot.
