I finally got enough miles on my new '05 RX1 to start playing with it. Out on the lake, we lined up my '04 next to the '05 to compare acceration & the '05 smoked the '04; it wasn't even close. The '05 lifts the skis up off the snow & goes!. Needless to say, I'm very happy with it.
both machines will achieve the same top speed & I know that the '05 is a few pounds lighter than the '04, but what's the difference between the two that makes one so much faster than the other? Clutching???

If they are both stock machines the big difference is the rear suspension. The 05 is the Mono and transfers very nicely while the 04 has the No action and can be set to transfer nice BUT you cant trail ride it like that you will have way too much ski lift.

I agree with you in regards to the rear suspension, however, with both machines running side by side, at any given speed, the '05 pulls away from the '04. Is there a difference in the way the drive sheaves are set up?
I think there is less drag on the track than the no cation which frees up a lot of accelleration.
The 05's have different piston rings also.

What about track?
A ripsaw will smoke any 03 & 04 stock track...
I have an 05 and it takes off hard etc. but on on ice i'd venture say that that's where the 05's advantage ends. The 03 & 04's are normally faster on top. I've managed to match and beat with some with clutching but not stock for stock.
I love my take off and would not trade that for the world! The 05 runs real nice in the rough stuff too! Dial in your damping, adjust the transfer & dial up your front springs - it rocks!!! I've never ever owned anything faster in the trails! I loved my SRX - but the dynamite in the toilet effect just wasn't as drastic! Your answer might be the tracks!

I think it could just be the difference between the two sleds... Some are faster than others right from the factory and no one knows why.
I have not posted this on here because I thought everyone would call me a liar but I ride an 05 rx-1 and my buddy rides an 05 rx warrior and our other buddy just bought an 07 apex rtx. All 3 have ripsaws and the two 121inchers have 144 studs and the 136 warrior has 162 (equivalent to 144 in a shorty) I weigh just shy of 300, the warrior driver weighs about 255 and the apex driver weighs 180. The two RX sleds have 2400 miles and 2600 miles and the apex has 700 miles on the odometers.
We have lined up and raced several times and my rx-1 and my buddys warrior are neck and neck no matter how far down the lake we go we are side by side. I equate that to the fact that he has more rotating mass but I weigh 50lbs more. But the apex can not win. Even when we all switch and I ride the apex I can not beat the two RX sleds. We have got side by side at 30, 40, 50mph and taken off and the apex gets behind everytime... The RX's come off the line quicker and take the apex all the way from the lodge to the pinecone (about 15miles if we hold em that long)
It may just be the apex that he got or maybe its not all the way broke in Idk but we are beating him everytime... It really makes us feel good that we can win on the old carbed rx's
