05 rage starving for fuel?

I'm at a loss. I have an 05 rage that I bought new. The last two years when running wide open the machine starts acting like it is running out of gas. It will achieve top speed, and maintain for a short distance, then start bogging until i back out of the throttle and let it catch up, then will begin climbing again. My local service guy thought maybe it was a tank venting issue and suggested cracking open the gas cap when this happens. Tried that... kind of tuff at a 100+.. but didn't help. Another service guy thought maybe fuel pumps. Anyone ever run across this? Hate to drop a $150 on a maybe.. thanks, Steve

carbs have been cleaned the last two seasons with the same results. Last cleaning he reset the floats thinking this might have something to do with it but no change. Sled runs great except for this problem...

Wife says it's my common sense governor.. She doesn't think wide open for long is a good thing. Maybe she's right but I like to have full power in deep snow and, questionable ice, lake runs. railroad grades I might tend to agree with her!!

try replacing the fuel filters in the tank. they are known to come apart over time and cause problems.

This might sound stupid but what about trying this: pull off a gas line from each of the pumps before they go into the carbs. Put extension tubes on the gas lines and put them into a clear container. Start the sled and see if the pumps are indeed pumping. I know that eventually the sled will die, but won't you at least be able to tell if the fuel pumps are working...even a little bit?

This is what I would check first. If that is not the problem change your plugs they do some strange things under pressure including shorting out in fact check your coils to make sure you do not have a light show going on and reinstall with dielectric grease.

Great idea actually... and I've already tried it on mine. Both pumps performed the same. They seemed to flow like crazy and I could feel a bit of pressure by putting my thumb over the end of the hose. I found that the best way to do this is to remove the gas line fro the outlet of the pump and hook a clear hose right to the pump and plug the hose that goes to the fuel rail. This allows the sled to run on one pump while testing the other

My vector was doing the same thing! I never figured it out at the time but i got in a bad accident tearing the front end off so i had to replace the ECU, wiring harness, and stator. No problems since but I'm not sure which part solved the problem but it's gone now!

Wow, I sure hope i don't have to replace all that to fix this problem.. I did pull the fuel lines off the pumps 1 at a time and it seems the lower pump was a little sluggish compared to the upper. Also, the upper pump had a steady syphon after i shut the sled off and the lower didn't. Anyone have thoughts on which is correct? I plan to pull the filters once I run some of the gas out of the full tank.. Hopefully today. Indiana actually has rideable snow and ice this year!! I also think I'll order 1 new fuel pump if the filters don't fix the problem and swap out to see if maybe one is weak..

In all honestly i think it could have been my stator since my mileage was at 8400 and i had a spare stator on my shelf waiting for it to go with the mileage since alot of other people's stator died with similar miles.

Let us know if you figure it out. Mine did that same thing last season. Haven't been on any wide open trails this year yet so don't know if it will act up or not. Over 10,000 miles on now. Could the stator cause this problem? Its not the carbs. I had those things cleaned 3 times last season and didn't help. Wonder if it is stator related.
