I am curious on how tight the track is supposed to be on my 05 rs venture. When I ride It sounds like a bit of ratcheting. And when I changed a guide wheel it seemed loose to me. So I am just looking for what it is supposed to be to be at. Thanks guys

Hi,
I know the manial has the specifics of this but I think it is an inch or so of slack in the middle of the track with 20lbs of of downward weight if memory serves. But check the manual to be sure. You can download it from yamaha

Careful now as the deflection does vary from model to model and is not one universal value; especially with the longer track sleds. For example, there is a difference in deflection between the '18 Apex (RX1NJ) and Apex XTX (RX1NXLJ) but you are correct in that it's 22lbs of downward force should produce a gap between the bottom of slider and the track:
It's just that the gap can and will be model specific but should also be in the owner manuals.

The track tension spec should be on your clutch guard, follow it.

So the track seems to be ok. Would the chain need to be checked to find out where the ratcheting is coming from?

you could be hearing the track clips hitting the tips on the sliders. you could try sucking down the front skid limiter straps a 1/2" and give it a try.
