I bought a 06 Yamaha apex last spring. I have not rode it yet. I put all new bushings in the frount, Changed the oil, bought a new belt (XS805), changed the chain case oil, adjusted the chain, Bought and replaced all 12 wheels, new hyfax. I am working replacing the dought gaskets. When i got down to them. I noticed the clamp on the left side was off and there was a .25 X 1 inch hole in the base of the flange of the y pipe. Should I weld it or replace it. I work in aerospace so welding titanium is no big deal but I dont want to do this job mid winter. Is there a easy way to get the y pipes out with out pulling the rear skid out? If I have to buy a new y pipe where is the cheapest place to get one. The cheapest place I have found so far is $148.53 each at my dealer. Any help would be great

No real easy way to get to these-----at the very least you gotta drop the back of the skid out and jack the back way up so you can at least get your hands on them. Then you gotta drill out the rivets on the top of the tunnel that hold the Y pipe bracket up. It don't sound fun I know but that is what has to be done. As far as finding the Y pipes there are allot of them on Ebay. That is where I got a set before. And if you are in to really cure the problem then Excell or MBRP both make a new Stainless Y pipe that is much stronger and is supposed to add a few extra ponys. those will run you between $450-$550 for the set. Enjoy your new ride man---I had mine out on the lawn this morning!!! :yam:

You can purchase SS y pipes from Yamaha, they were $80 Cdn when I did mine in the spring of 2009.

Check your private messages I sent you a link to a service manual for the Apex ;)!

Kevin at port Yamaha had the Y-pipes for around $90 a side and they are the stainless ones from Yamaha . Also I must have been lucky I didn't have to drill out the bracket holding the Y-pipes , the allen head bolts came right out with a little penetrateing spray, it was much easier than it sounds.

Ya, Not that bad of a job. I had our best welder weld it up for me last night at work. I am going to keep my eyes open on the best prices for the SS y pipes. Thank you

how did the weld hold up?

It held up great. But two weeks ago the other pipe got a crack in it. I ordered new SS y pipes and put them in last weekend. I have a good clutch side y pipe if any one needs it
