What do you guys think? I was thinking of getting 09 or 10 Apex LTX GT if I do get another. Or a 09 or 10 4-tec. I typically ride about 4000 miles a year.
My Attak has been great and only left me stranded once. (driveshaft) but lately it seems I ride it, pull into garage and start wrenching. Now its apart waiting for Y-pipes. All the issues are what most everyone with higher miles is seeing. If I buy a 09 or 10 LTX, I'm basically getting the same sled. Mine has all the updates that you can do to them so I consider it the same sled. Now I should get the clutches rebuilt as they have never been touched.
I have only been hearing good things about the handling of the 4-tec but I'm leery of leaving Yamaha.
If I buy another LTX, I can take the Ice ripper track off my 06, and basically have a parts sled. The 06 would still be my second sled but what I'm getting at is the parts would be there immediately if needed. Downside is I'm basically buying the same sled with the same issues.

I ahve always found keeping them and fixing them saves you money, but its always fun to get something new.
If you get the SS y pipes, beef up the skid, oilite bushings, etc your probably going to get $600-900 in parts plus a weekend of work to make it reliable for at least another 2 years. Seems cheap to me when I was riding with 2S ski doos sucking down $200 in oil this last week!

I'm pretty biased toward Cat but if you riding trails most part I think the best thing is 4-tec and being about two years behind. The thing is when you buying used stuff or trading used stuff, you know what you have and you don't know what you get. So if its just maintainancy issues you should probably stick with you're gun and use it until the Power Steering machines comes down in price. What is an y-pipe divided in 13,000 miles? Nothing!

Yeah I hear you guys. I already have the oilite bushings. Skid has the updated W arm, shock revalved with bigger spring, new drive bearings etc, etc...
Last year I rode 4500 miles and the sled came into the garage to get thawed out periodically. Last ride of season I noticed the W arm was broke. That was it.
This year I've snapped both bolts on transfer rod, snapped the driveshaft, 1 Y pipe is now cracked. Doesn't sound like much but each time is down time. Good thing I have my 2000 SXR 700!!! That's going on 11,000 miles!
Thanks for the opinions and keep them coming!!!

If you don't trust it anymore you should buy a newer one. And if you thinking of keeping the old one... yes then you have spare parts. If you sell it and use all that money + the money you will spend on the newer one you may have a new one (2011).

We have one of each and I must say it really is a matter of personal preference. We had an attak for my wife, she hated everything about it. traded for the 1200 doo doo and she couldn't be happier. I have done very little to adjust it for her and she is happy.
I have spent enough time on it to know that I will not be replacing my attak with another 1200(new Apex xtx, pending a test ride). For me it comes down to a feel thing, and I just can't get used to the feel of the doo. There is nothing wrong with it and out of the box is a much easier sled to live with.... however, and this is a stock doo to a well clutched attak... I LOVE MY MOTOR!! Everything from the power band to the sound. If I was forced to ride the 1200 it would have to have forced induction. And thinks to the great guys on TY, I spent very little time setting up the attak to my liking. And am ahead of the curve on most problem areas.
Good luck with the decision. Go ride a 1200 before you buy.

I have 12,000 miles on my 07 RTX and I will be keeping it. It is worth it for me to fix the minor stuff.

My sled has just hit 16000 miles and within the last few weeks i have had to change the starter and the stator for the crank position sensor. Now it's time to do the exhaust donuts gaskets again, 3 sets gone.

I would agree with everyone above. I rode a 1200 a couple of weeks ago. My dealer brought a Doo 1200 and a Polaris Rush up to the UP to ride with us for a couple of days. I thought the Rush would really be something special. Ha Ha, after 5 miles I told him I wanted off that thing, I would not have one of those if they gave it to me. I hope Polaris isn't counting on that one to save them, if so they might as well close up the doors now. The Doo 1200 was OK. I rode it about 50 miles, but I was glad to get back on my Yamaha's. I rode the new Apex's a week ago and was impressed with the XTX version. I didn't care for the 128 version. But that is probably because I am used to the long tracks, since I already have 2 Nytro XTX's. The Nytro is a great play sled, especially after you put a MPI S/C on them, and the Apex's are great long distance trail sleds. I would stick with what you have and already know. Just update to a newer Apex.
