Gents,
I've put a 1000 miles on a new set of hyfax. The first 850 miles they looked in great shape. Put about 150 miles on in warm (around freezing) conditions this weekend and noticed that my suspension wasn't icing up anymore. I assumed it was the warm weather and the snow wasn't sticking to the suspension. When I checked my hyfax I found they were about 90% gone (only where there are no idler wheels- about 18 inches from the rear), and the sliders were quite warm. There was still snow dust flying, bust obviously not enough. It is about a foot long of wear, otherwise I would say the sliders have about 80 - 90% left. I was planning on putting on oversized skidoo wheels and the marginal kit up front. But this is suggesting this skid needs another set of idler wheels where the excessive wear is taking place. I don't run my track as tight as yamaha suggests, so this may be why the rest of the sliders are ok. My question is, has anyone installed a extra set of wheels in the area I'm talking about,(particularly on a 136 skid). Any info or pics would be appreciated.
Mucho gracias,
Greg

Hyfax Wear
sleddermb,
I have a 136" Vector monoshock (stretched with Trackusa extension). I have also been unhappy with hyfax wear. I have ordered and installed a couple of products that I think will help. We need more snow in MN before I can test.
Fix Powersports (vendor on this site) sells a very good low snow wheel kit for the front of the suspension. It rides in the curve of the rails.
Pioneer Performance sells a kit to lower your six stock Yamaha idlers 3/16 of an inch.
I have ordered both, but do not have enough miles to have an opinion yet.
In my case, most of my wear was in the front of the suspension. I pulled my limiter strap one hole to put more of the carrying on the back of the suspension. You might have the opposite issue. You may want to carry more weight on the front. You could consider letting out your limiter strap if you have pulled it previously.
Good luck,

I've order a set from fix. I don't think I need the oversize wheels on mine, just another set in the right place. I'll let you guys know this goes. If anyone else has used the small wheels from fix, please give me some feedback.
Thanks,
Greg

I received my marginal kit from Fix Powersports yesterday. I went to install and found my new sliders (about 100 miles) were totally gone in the exact spot as the previous ones (about 18 inches ahead of the rear wheels). The only thing I have adjusted that I can see having this effect is the limiter strap. I believe I tightened it 2 holes which I think would put more pressure on the ski's and the rear suspension. Does anyone know what the stock position is on the limiter strap. I think it was second hole from the longest when I got the sled and the sliders seemed to last a lot longer in this position.
Thanks for any input.

Slider wear - I shoulda listened to you guys
Un-fricken believable! Lengthened the limiter two notches back to factory. Installed the small marginal wheels from Fix and a new set of sliders. Went for a quick 50 mile trip last night. 30 of those miles on freshly groomed trail. Got back and found I had wore 3/4 of the hyfax out, about 6 inches on either side of where I put my new wheels. Off to Polaris tonight and put a set of 135 mm wheels on. Put another 50 miles on tonight and 'voila', didn't burn any more sliders. Should have listened to you boysand changed them when I got the sled. 3 sets of hyfax later, I learned my lesson. What a difference when rolling to a stop. The best I had seen on the dream-o-meter before was 102 mph. Hit 106 last night and tonight. Heading out for about a 200 mile run this weekend so that should tell me if my hyfax are going to last.

I'm new to wrenching on sleds, but have done all my own repairs to my Tahoe and other vehicles I've owned - so forgive my newbie question. Can you tell if your hyfax are wearing (worn) out just by looking at them? I see in the repair book they talk about "measuring", but it would seem to me there is a way to check them quickly to determine this. Thanks for the help!
there is a wear line about the middle of the slides. when that line is very thin or gone the hyfax need replacing.

Thanks - I figured it was something simple like that!

Yup, I am using new Doo wheels and the hyfax have only worn down to about the 1/2 way point during the past 1400 miles. $120 shipped for 6 new Doo wheels!

Put 300 miles on this weekend and the slides didn't wear any more. Metallicat, What are the size of your Doo wheels. I could only find a pair of Polaris wheels before the weekend which were 135 mm. They work fine but stick out past the wheel mount about 1/4 inch. I see some guys have machined the mounts so the wheel goes all the way on. I think I would rather have a wheel that fits proper. If your Doo wheels fit without machining, can you get me the part numbers. I stopped at a Doo dealer on Saturday and he must have had 15 different wheels.
Thanks,
Greg

The Doo wheels require machining to the mounts too. Any wheel that uses the wider 6205 replacable bearing (Doo, Poo) will require modification to the mounts. I had my dad turn all 6 of mine down on his lathe. Some have taken them to a machine shop for this service. The rear mounts only require .060, the front 4 will take .120. If you intend to use the Polaris wheels, better get your mounts machined for proper fit. The front 4 wheels can be used with only a slightly longer bolt since it doesn't hurt anything if they stick out a bit, but at least do the rear 2 wheels so that thay stay centered between the track drive lugs.

for the hyfax wear i went here http://pioneerperformance.net/ and ordered the wheel spacer kit part # P-S124 and put in on in about 1/2 hour. the kit lowers the stock idler wheels 2mm that basicly eliminated all the hyfax wear i had; 3 sets in 1600 miles. i like this set up because it uses the stock size idler wheels instead of oversized polaris, kimpex or ski doo wheels. i also have the SLP anti wear pads on and after 400 miles now with this set up i have had no visible hyfax wear.
the wheel spacer kit at pioneer perfromance web site is under the "rear suspension" tab on the left, then scroll about halfway down. i then called them at 716-496-8800 and ordered the kit and it was on my door about 5 days later.

The Poo and Doo wheels are only 2.5mm lower than the stock wheels. I don't think there is much of a difference between lowering your stock wheels 2mm or using the over-sized Poo/Doo wheels.
