I am thinking about trading in my 99 Vmax Deluxe 600 triple with a 2 up seat for an 06 Vector. The vector has 11000 miles on it, the Vmax has lower miles, my wife would like a smoother ride. Are there any issues with that model I need to be aware of and is it worth it. Any comments would be appreciated.

Yeah, stay away.
1. That gen of Vector has well known possible timing chain tensioner failure. Well, known to us on here, average idiot selling one either doesn't know, or is playing dumb when asked.
2. Known for a weak and/or failed stator.
3. Old "sit down style" seating position. Not that the Gen 2 is a true rider forward, but it a lot more upright & comfortable.
4. Who still wants to fk around with carbs & a choke to start? Not me, that's for sure. And speaking of the carbs, they dry out on that engine after sitting for a few weeks, and become a real PITA to get started. Quickest way when it happens is pop the airbox open & load the carbs with aerosol carb cleaner.
5. Find a 2010+ Vector LTX if you want a real upgrade.

The only issues with the earlier year mono suspensions were related to the W-arm cracking. Later years like on mmy 08, they added gussets to reinforce the arm. As for the 4-cylinder engine plant, I have over 21k on my 08 and she is still running strong. Haven't touched the valves as I have not encountered any related symptons but have had the drive axle break on the side of the chain case. Later model Apex's like the +11 had a longer drive axle and additional bearing for it within the chain case cover for additional support.

I have an 06 Vector with 50,000 kms on it. It has been a good machine. There are no perfect sleds out there. A sled is just one big wear part. As for trading your machine, just know a Vector is really just a one-up machine, don't add a 2-up seat to it, as the rear exiting exhaust will prohibit that.
