I am confused and my dealer says Yamaha does not have a fix and will not warranty a Hifax because it is a wear item.

First off I bought the sled new in January. At approximately 470 miles I had totally burned through both Hifax's. Yesterday I get home and now am at approximately 670 miles and the second set is almost all the way through and in need of replacement.

I live in Wyoming where the snow has been pretty good. I have heard they will burn up with low snow riding conditions and I totally agree. But I have been in powder and keep the track in as much snow as I possibley can at all times.

Is there something I can do about this. If I have to replace them 4-5 times a year that is obsurd. My dads 06 Apex is also having the same issue. I assume the 162" track does emit more heat and friction but I just don't get it.

I have been pointed to a product called Ice Scratchers. I am going to get some in the off season but I don't think they will fix the problem in these sleds as I have had very little low snow riding conditions.

Please help a sceptical new yamaha owner because I have already had idler wheels replaced and windsheild.

My slides are usually good for a minimum of 2000 miles the only time you should see abnormal wear is if your riding down the road or trail without any snow cover. If the conditions are as good as you say either your track is to tight, or your bogie wheels are'nt turning.

Steve, I get about the same out of my '03 RX-1mtn. I am runing a fully clipped track and scratchers though. I think the issue is on the mountain sleds. It all started with the '05 models when Yamaha switched to the new Pro-Mountain suspenssion with the wider hyfax and tipped up rails at the rear.

Brian Lang aka TurboVector has the '05 Mountain w/162" x 2 1/2" track and, finally had to switch to Hyperfax after replacing a set of rails because the clips chewed completely through the hayfax and chewed up the alluminum. Here is a link to the first thread he posted about his problem. www.ty4stroke.com/viewtopic.php?t=12027&highlight=

Scratchers are a must on these sleds - I waited to put mine on and I wish I wouldn't have.

Make sure your tracks on both sleds are not overtight. Some dealers will overtighten tracks because they are assuming that the customer will never check it after they buy it.

Like Blgs said - I think it is a bunch of things contributing to it, and I think he covered them all.
