'07 Apex GT Rear Shock Topping Out?

Question. Never heard this before. I rode on some very rough trails last week, first time on trails this rough. After every bump, it sounded and felt like the rear shock was topping out. It never bottomed out but it was banging pretty good under there. Compression stroke was perfect. Time has not allowed me to inspect the undercarriage yet to see if anything broke. I played with the electronic control but it didn't help. Other than that, the rear was fine. Any thoughts?

sure it's not the control rod, my bud's is noisey as hell. I saw there was a fix for it on here, summer project.

thats your transfer rod you hear... they bang and clunk away... makes you think the rear is coming apart... i removed mine on the 40th... now silky smooth.. but it bangs some wild wheelie's when i want it too!!!

That's what I thought, actually, but wasn't sure. Believe it or not, this is my 4th Yamaha, an Exciter 570 , Rx-1, and 2 Apex's and this is the 1st time I'm noticing it. That's what I get for riding somewhere other than Canada. Now, your saying that this is normal and after inspection for any obvious breaks, just ignore it?

I don't know if yammi changed the rod, but my friend has a '07 121" Apex and his bangs like hell, yet my '09 doesn't make a sound. Mine is an LTX . He's got 1600 MI I have 1100. Tried various settings on his and mine, yet only his bangs. IDK?

mine did it till I let the spring down a bit and increased rebound dampening, had big boy spring and revalve, was set where they put it and I think the set generously. but the actual noise probably was my transfer, just doesn't do it now

Well i have about 5500 mile on the 40th now, and i just got tired of hearing it... normal driving it was quiet... but i found that when i got into tight small trails with about a 6-8" chop doing less than 30 mph it was banging away... this is normal unfortunately... witrh the style of the mono, this couples the front and back arm... poo's, doo's and skat's have tranfer "blocks" behind the rear arm so they dont get the clunking of the arm extending and comming back... thats the noise you hear... so... i just removed mine... i pulled the limiter in one hole, set my "sag in" on the shock/spring and got my front end as low as posible... now this thing handles like its on rails... but get "light" inthe front end durring accel... (just the way i like it).

its called maximum transfer and if thats what you like, no reason to not remove

Sounds like that's what is doing it, the transfer rod. Funny how I never heard it before. I guess I have to stay off the rough trails! LOL. Did take a quick look under there, nothing broken from what I can see. As soon as I get done working on all the quads in my shop, I will put it up on the lift and give it the old magnifying glass.
