Hey Guys! I am a noob on here been looking at the site for quite some time! I have a 07 Apex that I took out on the lake with the girlfriend yesterday and the thing has NO brakes! My brother said he adjusted the parking brake before selling it to me but I made sure it was off. It had brakes when we got out onto the lake but after an hour my girlfriend starting pointing down and said there was nothing once we got stopped. Any ideas on this? How do I check these things? I am a noob and havent worked on sleds in like 15 years and trying to get back into the sport with my girlfriend! GO yamaha!

check your fluid in the reservoir on the brake lever. any sign of leaking at the caliper or along the brake line?

Take the right side panel off and find the Break disc. The Caliper mounted on top of the disc hold the pads. make sure there is pads still there. If not replace them and have your disc checked out to see if it's ok,
Then move to the handle bars and Check to make sure the Master cylinder has fluid in it . Take the top cover off if you need to add some. If you go on Yamaha's Web site they have owners manuals for all the sleds right on the site . This will give you some insight also on how to fill the Master cylinder
This is great thank you! It squeezes like its doing something but like there is no friction. Do they have how to adjust the parking brake on there? Thanks!

It didn't seem like it, I didnt check the fluid level but it sure felt like there was "lever" just nothing would happen when you pulled it tight like there were no pads.check your fluid in the reservoir on the brake lever. any sign of leaking at the caliper or along the brake line?

parking brake is separate and is under the rotor in the pic. it has nothing to do with the hand/hydraulic brake, it's applied by a cable

This shows you a few things to check.

Post a couple of pics of the brake caliper and rotor. There could be oil on the rotor and and pads. If so there would be no brake action.

See the pics above I couldnt get them to post last night. Stupid pic size limitations.. Had to dig up a photobucket account!
Both the bolts were gone, I found one in a belly pan but cant find the other. I think the caliper might be ok but I might as well change the pads out. I have to order a new bolt obviously...
Wondering if I should check everything else over, usually the guy who owned it is pretty thorough...

It likely won't brake very well with the caliper unmounted like that LOL
The one pad is shot and the other is worn. It was not floating properly on the mount pins which causes one pad to wear faster then the other. I would suspect damage to the rotor as well. But it likely can be cleaned up.

With the pads in place squeeze them back in with a large pair of pliers. Watch and feel how they go back in. If smooth and steady you are good to go. If not rebuild or replace the caliper.
I would grab some wrenches and sockets and go thru all the nuts and bolts for peace of mind.
