Just curious, what improvements have been (or are scheduled/rumored to be) made to the '07 Apex RTX compared the the '06 model?

Handwarmers?

Idler wheels?

Front/rear suspensions?

Skis/darting?

Engine/drivetrain?

Last year, with 8900 miles on my '03 F7, I was seriously thinking of jumping ship to my first Yami, but I decided to hold off. Well, this year with 11,300 miles on my F7, I'm once again in the same boat. My sled is still running great, I'm still having fun with it, and it still does now what it did when it was brand new @ $7200.

Gotta' admit, nothing in the new Cat or Doo camp really excites me at this point, and the Polaris Dragon is cool, but I think I've already got something pretty similar to that in my current sled (but for a helluva lot less $$$!). The new RTX DOES at least peak my interest a bit.

By the time I sell my old sled, I'm lookin' at $7000 - $8000 to upgrade. Anytime a guy spends that kind of dough to upgrade, he just wants to make damn sure it's indeed going to be a noticeable upgrade!

Any comments from current RTX owners, '07 RTX owners to be, or ex-F7 owners converted to the Apex GT/RTX camp?

Any useful comments and feedback is greatly appreciated as always! – Roy

I am with you, I want to know any changes as well, I am coming off of a viper so i am going to LOVE the ride of my new apex. :yam:

Gearing on the 07 RTX is WAY lower than the 06 apex!

The 07s have redesigned handle bars and grips for your hand warming pleasure!

The rear suspension on the 07 RTX was taken from the 06 NYTRO.. some say its better than the monoshock!

I ride with mostly cats.. 2 F6s 3 F7s, zr900 etc.. you will not be disapointed..

Handwarmers are changed, and I would not worry much about the idler wheels...no way does Y want to go through that again.

Ignition system is different, I havent found out why or what it will improve.

gearing is the same Apex 24T top Attak 23T except the RTX is 22T for 07

Suspension should be the same except the RTX switches out to a better big jump skid, and I suspect the GT could get a heavier spring, and possibly a slight change in valving.

Prolly still dart until you put on Dooley carbides or Simmons skis.

Personally.. seeing how cheap some are letting 06s go for, id get a 06.. and add a stiffer rear spring.. Handwarmers will be updated this summer anyways

Working all from list prices.
You could probably spring check an 07 for 12-15% off if you shop around.
Left over 06 you need to be in the 20+% off range.
There have been some good used 06 sleds that sold in classifieds for 30% or a little more off original list, some with as few as 700 miles on them.

I just snowchecked an 07 RTX up in NH last week. I'm coming off an 02 EdgeX 700 and haven't been this stoked since the birth of our first born :yam: I've ridden an 06 RTX and fron what I hear the 07 rear skid will be better for the type of trails up here in NE that I am riding. I actually really like the color / graphics for 07 on the RTX. Not sure how the gearing reduction will change things overall but it might get better corner to corner acc. and suffer on the top? I'm planning on the Ulmer clutch and 23 top if need be. Cannot wait for October

I have rode the 07 rtx and it's all in a personal preferance so please no bashing but I like the proactive skid better in the 07 rtx rather than the mono shock. If your an aggressive rider don't think twice abouty the price saving there is no comparison between the 07 and the mon suspension. The 07 is the best yamaha sled I ever drove it flat out rock's.

If you could get a left over 06 is it worth getting that or getting the extra money and get the 07??
I was going to order an 07 RTX until my dealer sold me a leftover 06 for $7,700. IMHO the 06 is much better looking too :bling
If you like the looks and beat the hell out of the sled get the 07 with the Pro-active rear skid. If you don't and want to save some big coin get the one of a kind looking 06. With the color scheme of the 07 RTX now looking like a Nytro the 06 will stand out that much more.

My take after demo riding the 07 sleds. Any of the mono sleds handle stutter bumps VERY well. Where the torsion sleds are WAY better is in the BIG roller bumps. The mono seems to absorb the bump to a point, and then bottoms. The torsion skid absorbs the bump, but seems to resist bottoming. It leaves the sled in a less compressed state at the top of the bumps. Personally, if they offered a 136" torsion suspension, I'd be all over it. I am firmly convinced of the advantages to a 136" suspension. The sled that was the most fun for me at the demos was the RTX. Like a big bore dirt bike, just burp it of the the upslope of a big roller and double onto the next set. But at 285 lbs. I NEED the extra length of the 136 for offtrail and adventure riding, LOL. Good luck with your decision.

Dave ;)!

No you don't.........you just need a GOOD reverse ;)!

On a more serious note, they had two 07 RTX's here in Munising for the demo rides..........one setup "normal" and the other setup with the "Fat Boy" setup. Since I outweigh Viper_Dave by a couple lbs. (although maybe not anymore.....BUT I'm about 4" shorter too), I'm pretty sure he'll agree with me that the F/B setup was really where you want to be..........again, FOR US. For you lighter guys, the "normal" setup has to be darn near perfect.

I was almost sorry I bought my Nytro (however I did get a pretty good deal on it........and I'm really happy with it). I was very surprised at how well the ProActive skid really rides. Now, the monoshock suspension feels almost mushy to me after only about 1100 or so on the ProActive.
