How much heavier do you think the Apex motor is than the Nytro motor you are replaceing?
It took me a second to notice that was an Apex motor in the first picture! Lol! It should be the best sounding nytro on snow when its done!

This will be a sweet project. There are a couple mountain guys that have done this.Diamond s also makes a titanium nytro chesis built specifically for a 4cylinder.
i THINK the apex motor is around 8lbs heavier than the Nytro but I will put them on a scale and find out for sure.
Unfortunately this is not going to be a speedy project. I don't have a lot of free time these days and for the first time in a long while will not be riding. This will be my way of staying involved in sledding and giving me something to work on that I enjoy doing. Will be doing a full build on it over the winter/spring and have it ready for snow for next season.
Hope to do the build utilizing parts exclusively from TY sponsors and will maybe get some TY member input/involvment to help shape this project. Maybe conduct some member poll's along the way which will dictate which direction the sled build will go. Will definitley be taking a lot of photos and posting updates along the way.
ya, the mountains guys always get to have all the fun!

What were the reasons you decided to pursue this project? HP wise these motors are very similar once you add exhaust, Filters, plugs, and a PC111 and ignition module to the Nytro. A couple pluses on the Apex motor are the gear reduction and the higher RPM's the motor spins.
I'll be very curios to see the MPH you pull out of this sled. My guess is it will be better then an Apex because the Nytro is a Lighter package. I think the Gear Reduction and the higher RPM's the Apex spins is what gives the Apex the edge in top end.

the #1 reason I did it was to have a project to work on. Something different, something unique, something that will catch people's attention. I love snowmobiling a great deal but even more so I enjoy projects like this..planning them out in my mind and watching them come together step by step to unveil my vision right there before me in all of its mechanical glory
I have enjoyed my Nytro a great deal since I got it. I was running a stage 2 MPI S/C and it worked pretty well. The chassis suits my riding style much more than the Apex however everyday I went for a ride I still missed something about my old 06 Apex Turbo. Right from the second I'd turn the key on the Apex for each ride I had a big #*$&@ eating grin on my face...Loved the sound, loved the smoothness and everything about the powertrain, something about it just got the adrenaline going...I never had that with my Nytro.
For me I guess its combining the best of both worlds. The nytro has a lot of potential no doubt but for me this combination just happens to really turn my crank and bring two great aspects of sleds I love together in one package.
I'm still debating what direction to go with the sled. I'm not looking for an all out top end machine but I think rather a freeride/crossover sled that does all things well but not one thing exceptionally. It is currently setup in 136 tip up form with the help of OFT rail and tunnel extension. My apex was a 144x1.5" (crossover track, no studs) which I quite liked but rwill not go the no stud route again (too much lake riding). So the first big question is whether to stick with my 136 or go 144. As of now I'm leaning towards 144. Then the question of 1.25 or 1.5.
Between all the great TY sponsors here we all have access to some fantastic products so I am certainly looking forward to dealing with them to make this project become reality.

Seems like you are building a version of the Nytro that the factory should come out with! I'd think there would be a market for a 150-160 hp Nytro. I'd like to read about the chassis mods that are required for the swap.

This is a very exciting idea, im very curious to see the outcome, and how long it takes to finish this.
NICE!!
NICE!!
If I were just putting the sled together to get it done it likely would not take very long however like I mentioned in my above post I'll be taking my time on this. First up with be removing the tunnel, designing a nice kick up 144 (likely) extension and hopefully making the Skinz airframe boards work on the short track tunnel. The tunnel will go out for powder coat along with the subframe, and side frame pieces...and then I'll get on with the project focusing on the suspension next.
