Was out for 10 mins Friday when gauges all went down then started bogging and spitting. Turned it off and would not start, boosted it and got it on a trailer. Got it to the yammy shop out of town. Guy there said it could be battery. Seeing it was Friday and the shop closed sat. they pulled a battery out of a sled and dropped it in for 300.00 bucks I coulda sh#$t. then he tells me after using his meter that it could be relays and or stator. Battery is five yrs old so benefit of doubt but a vector with 3000 miles ...stator hmm. Started ok but don't want to go anywhere with the tank...trust issues. Do I have to hook it up to a scope to see if its the stator. I know they're not cheap. Not impressed if it is the stator if it was a cat could see it but on a vector???? Also was out of town no riding.

Yes - believe it or not, the Vector. I just did a search for "stator" in just the RS section of this forum and came up with 4 pages worth. Get yourself a beer or three and do some reading!

- Bought a new 05 Vector which I still have
24K miles
Yes it sounds like the stator has failed. The sled will run on a new battery until that battery is drained. $300 for a new battery?

i just went all thru this a cpl weeks ago,it was the stator, but my sled has 25000 km,had a good dealer replace it,you have to pull the engine to change it,they reinstalled the engine, hooked everything up and didnt start, turns out the stupid starter was shot too,

Just had the stator fail on my 05 venture w/ 14000 mi. Classic symptoms, battery drained while riding, cold grips. Voltage and ohms tested fine, but just had a feeling it was the stator. Wires were badly burnt on one of the coils on it. FYI, it's not a bad job to do yourself IF you're willing to trim a 1/2" X 3" piece of the bulkhead to get the cover off. This turns it from about a four hour job down to an hour job with no engine loosening required. Also, it looks like they updated the part a couple years ago. The new stator is 8ES-81410-01-00. Good luck!
