09 Nytro SE front steering knuckle coming apart

I have 2 09 Nyro SE's and both have had the A arm come loose from the steering knuckle ruining the steering knuckle by egging out the top mounting holes. Anyone else having this problem? I have to believe there are others with 2 identical sleds doing it.

Just had it happen to me last week. I thought I could tighten it up and it would be ok, NOT. The bolt opened-up the thru hole in the knuckle pretty good.

After looking up the cost to replace the knuckle I decided to fabricate a bushing to compensate for the wear to prevent the bolt from moving around. Put it together a few days ago (used Loctite this time because the locknut obviously didn't do its job!). Over 100 mi on the fix so far and it appears to be holding.

Mine were both under warranty but Yamaha refused my first claim saying it was my fault for not checking to bolt. I did check the bolts on my 2nd Nytro and they still worked their way loose. I am going to have to fight to get my 2nd nytro covered. I think Yamaha is going to see more of this because both of my sleds did the same thing.

Sorry didn't take any pictures at the time but hopefully the marked-up image will help...

I remember reading about this here a while back and while I had the front suspension apart to replace bushings, I installed a longer bolt that fed into the spindle through to the 2nd structural bridge of the spindle. There is already a hole In the spindle to allow this. I used 2 nylock nuts per bolt, one in original postion and one where the bolt passed through the second hole in the spindle.

I feel that it is more secure/stronger than stock and hopefully prevent the above problem.

Here's a link to a thread from last year...same problem.

both my 08 and 09 had that upper ball joint nut come loose. The bolt in the 08 actually fell out when I was riding, luckily was able to stop safely. Have replaced both sides with better bolts and nylock nuts and lock tight. Watch this guys it could be dangerous

has anyone noticed any slop when pulling up the handlebars on the Nytro?

Yes, thou when I relocated my steering and tighten the bushings down it was better. Built in to steering shaft..

Grimm - I like your idea. If my fix doesn't hold and I have to get a new knuckle, I think I'm gonna install it in a similar manner utilizing the second bridge as well. I was thinking about that but I had to do something to compensate for the large hole I had to deal with. You'd think a good engineer would understand that threads and aluminum don't mix (should be a shoulder bolt in the first place).
