I was hoping to get some input as to the differences between these two model years and what would be recommended. I've been riding Doo's (Renegades) since 03 and am looking to give the Nytro XTX a shot. I'm looking at an 09 Nytro XTX and a 10 Nytro XTX. They both have approximately the same mileage but the 2010 is about $1500 more than the 09. Let me know your opinions. I've heard that the hand warmers were not very good on the 09 and that the heat exchanger cannot handle wet snow without overheating. Thanks

The only differance I'm aware of is the graphics! When I bought mine I told the dealer I wanted an all black one. He told me to wait until 2010 because they have the black ones coming out and that's the only differance was the colours. So personally I'd be saving the $1500.00

I think they put stiffer sideboards on the '10 model. As far as the hand warmer issue, yes, the 09's are terrible, but corrected by installing the Yamaheater. Check with "Rockmeister", the owner of Yamaheater, if he also sells a lot of his product to '10 owners as well.

Common issues with XTXs, and their fix:
  • - Useless handwarmers--install a Yamaheater module, or at least gauntlets.
    - Stock skis submarine in powder--install aftermarket, or Yamaha mountain skis.
    - Darting--install double-runner carbides
    - Suspension difficult to dial in--rebuild shocks, such as Hygear. Expensive, but worth it.
    - Hyfax wear. Tend to wear quickly thorugh the first half of the hyfax, and the stabilize. You can add oversized, or extra wheels.
    - Clutch can be grabby for technical, low speed trail riding. Change primary spring or detuned clutch kit, such as SchmidtBros "comfort" clutch kit.
    - Wind exposure--put taller windshield on.
    - No onboard storage space--wear backpack, and/or install saddlebags
    - Difficulty in carrying extra fuel can--install Trail Tank or Tour Buddy auxilliary tank. Otherwise, you can expect 100-110 miles range.
    - Overheating--Roest racing sells a vent to replace the panel where the gauge is mounted. Otherwise, add water wetter and scratchers, and possibly extra vents in bodywork.
    - Powder performance--the stock 1.25 inch lug track is more for trail riding. If you want to ride more off-trail, consider replacing it with a 1.75

There was also a problem with shearing the bolt which attaches your drive gear to the drive shaft. It's a issue which can be resolved with adding a 5mm spacer. If it breaks alot of guys ride with them broken because the pieces are retained by the chain case cover. Other than the poor hand warmers the rest is kind of smaller issues which can be dealt with if your slightly mechanically inclined or if you feel the need to address them.

exactly, if you don't take your chaincase apart you'll never know the bolt is broken.

Excellent feedback, Thank you very much for taking the time to provide real world feedback. Your responses are appreciated. It certainly sounds like purchasing the 09 for $1500 less and making a few modifications would be a good route to go.

i got a 09 xtx,and the warmers will cook your hands
