I will probably go with Wahl Brothers extros. What do i need to get 9 or 8 tooth, and what pitch? Thanks.

I got both here.Let me know if you need them.Thanks rich

track=$600
9t wahl sprockets=$162

9 tooth is stock 2.52 pitch

If you switched to 8 tooth it would be like dropping 1 or 1.5 or 2 gears, I forget which.

If I did it again, I would put 8 tooth drivers in. But thats just me. I don't need lots of top end speed. Which I'm assuming you don't either, since you're installed a 1.75" track.

Plus, with 8 tooth drivers you should be able to fit a 2 1/4" track in there, if you ever feel the need.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think I read on here somewhere that if you change to an 8 tooth driver you have to trim a bit off the front of your rails so the track doesn't catch them. Not a big deal... just so your in the know. I think. maybe someone could confirm.

Not to say i'm 100% or discredit Yamanimal I remember reading that the rails needed to be sometimes be trimmed with 9t extros because they would hit the rail tips when the front of the skid is compressed and the 8t extros being a smaller diameter avoids this problem. Again don't quote me but that's what I remember reading somewhere on here, I tried searching it but couldn't seem to find the thread it was in. Point is as yamanimal said just want you in the know to avoid future problems that we all hate :o|

I forgot to add the trimming of the rails, good catch guys. Another reason i would go with 8 tooth.

Although, on the Shorty Nytro the 9 tooth fit just fine. Only the xtx needs trimming

Not to hijack the topic or anything but since it relates to the original post I have a question, I am intending to do the same thing and switch to a backcountry track and extros (8t to avoid trimming) next summer after I get a season on the sled. My question is what is the best and most economical to do with gearing to get the most out of the sled with the BC track and 8t extros. I have heard simply drop a tooth on the top gear. Hope this will help the original author of this post as well

On a flatland sled, I would not goto 8t drivers unless you absolutely have to, for example running a 2.25" track, or they don't clear the rail tips. 9ts are going to be more efficient and be better for setting up to run in a wider variety of conditions. Consider an anti-stab kit if you go with 8ts.
