11 Vector LTX Slide/Hifax Wear Question

1st time poster, just bought my 1st Yamaha. Heard that Yamaha has a history of building machines that eat slides.

Just got an 11 Vector LTX. Brand new. Curious as to how the slides wear. I understand it all depends on conditions, but am looking for what some owners have experienced. It looks like they wear quickly at 1st and then slowly once they get to a certain point.

Thanks for the help.

Run the track with 1 1/2- 1 3/4" of FREE SAG.

This will solve most of the hyfax issues. Yamaha's specs for track tension is bullchit.

I set mine for 1 3/4" and don't even bother to check it the rest of the season. So, by the end of the season, it probably has closer to 2".

1,600 miles on my originals & they look like new yet.

One of the best things Yamaha did was when they put extrovert drivers on the '10-current sleds. Hell, I even run 1 1/2" on my '06 Apex with regular drivers. It dosen't slip, and 1,000 miles on new hyfax, and they look like new yet also.

Welcome to TY and congrats on your 11" Vector LTX. There are a large number of threads on here discussing hyfax wear. The bottom line is most people run the track tension less than the Yamaha spec. I run my 136" Rage with approx 1 3/4" free sag on the track. and usually get 1,800 - 2,500 miles on a set of stock Yamaha slides. Have fun and b safe this winter. G.B.

One last thing. Free Sag = Gap between center of slide and center of track when rear of sled is suspended. It does not require me to pull down on the track, but should sag on its own.

I have a history of over thinking things.

Thanks.

Correct. The longest distance between track clips & hyfax, rear suspended off ground, under its (track) own weight.

With the 162 studds installed I have track tension set OEM. Don't want it to "Balloon".
We got 1800 miles with some left over slide material last season. The RS was bought brand new last year. We had a good year of snow and wife rides it mostly. She's only 130lbs. and drives like an old lady.

Replaced them yesterday and set track tension with recommended sag for hopefully a longer life.

It was by far the worst slide replacement job I have ever been a part of. What a mess. Had to peel them off the rails and pull them out sideways. Almost pulled the skid. They would not move when pounded from the front of the rail. Disgusting.

What seems to be the best way to install new slides? It cannot be to pull the skid every time??

I need to set mine a bit looser. 500 mile breakin done and I have a set worn through at the curve.
Its going in for an oil change and a new set of hyfax.

After carefull consideration I think I will try out a set of studboy shapers with 4" carbide.

We are running a lot of powder on ice and its pretty nice with stock 4" but needs a touch more.

get the slide in a window on the track and put the sled in reverse and they slide right off

X1

If you take in for slides, make sure you check when you get it back as they will set the track tension to specs.
