Yamaha Phazer 2007 GT
Hey guys,
Just tore my skid out on my 2007 Phazer GT 121".
Quite an experience getting it out.
I just had some questions pertaining to the skid,
Am I able to just unbolt the front and rear shock on the skid or is it still under load? Reason for asking is because the limiter strap seems tight still.
Also is there any major modifications or replacing I should consider while the skid is out?
I am going to try to get fox zero shocks for the skid. The past season seemed to be a lot of bottoming out.
Should I cover the front hole in the tunnel to prevent icing? I know people replace the back piece of sheet metal that has the vents and just close it off but is it the same as the front hole?
Also for the A-Arm ball joints, I cleaned them up because they had a little rust, and I noticed that they seem very resistant as far as moving around freely? Is this normal?
I attached pics.
Thanks for any info

I can not tell from your pictures if you have the tension removed from the torsion springs? this should he the first thing you do.
The coil on the front shock is what is creating the tension on the limitar strap. Push down on the front arm to take the force off the strap and remove the bolts on the strap. This will allow you remove the bolts on the front shock as the force on the shock bolts should be relieved.
I would look into updating the link if it has not been done already.

If you follow the spring down to the rails there is a black block that is holding the spring. If you releove the force on the block you should be able to rotate it. This will free up the spring.

I looked at the block that you are talking about that the spring is resting on. I can rotate it but nothing really happens.

You should be able to rotate it enought to be able to lift the long end of the tortion spring off of it.I looked at the block that you are talking about that the spring is resting on. I can rotate it but nothing really happens.

Thanks! I got it off now along with the stock GT shocks.
I'm looking into getting some fox zero shocks to replaces the ones I have.
Does anyone have any other suggestions for shock situation?

i was wondering about closing off the front of the tunnel as well it seems like it would be good for nothing but catching snow and blocking the cooler at the front of the tunnel

Closing off the front won't really matter where the twin pipe is because they are super hot and melt the snow before you'll see buildup

Has anyone ever heard of the pipe cracking from temp change?

It's really thick exhaust material I bought my sled with 5000k and it's not cracked at all I'm assuming they will never crack have never seen any cracking issues on this forum. I even cut my stock muffler off and wielded my phazer mbrp pipe on and the welded portion there were no cracks

My dad patched the front part of his tunnel because he said it was icing up the running boards when the melted snow ran down onto them....that's all I know from his view.

Some have closed the front hole with no problems, I think they have to remove the side "skirt" thing.
Personally, I think some engineer at Yamaha must have left it there for a reason, especially considering they eventually eliminated the rear hole, so won't close mine.
