Currently I have a '15 129 Viper RTX SE and I am really interested in moving up the the SideWinder.
Can anyone tell me the 'REAL' difference from the 129 RTX LE to the 137 LTX LE? What do you think would be a better match for me? I ride mostly from the Square Valley trails through the lower part of Tug Hill NY and a few trips a year to Old Forge, 95% on trail. What one do you think would be faster on the hard packed lake runs as well? I am guessing they have different gearing? Rider weight dressed approx 250lbs. No studs (might switch to the ice ripper track).
Also anyone that has seen the new sled in person, would the viper windshield in my avatar fit on the SideWinder?
Thanks in adv for any and all info provided.

I think the 137 will hook up better and should still be ok in the twisties. That would be my choice. With that much power I think getting the 129 to hook up will be a challenge.

137 for me better hook up in most snow conditions

How about actual difference in track footprint between 129 and 137? I was told the 129 was only 6 inches bigger in footprint vs. my old 121 Nytro so sometimes it's not just the math I guess.

I think the viper was only 2 lugs on the ground difference from 129 to 137? I know the 137 has different geometry in the back end as far as shock angle and what not. I'm still wondering the gearing between the 2 and what one would be faster on the big end. I have always been a short track rider, but I have seen allot of happy people with 137's... So I dunno. I was also thinking the 137 would hook better, but if it is really only 2 lugs difference on the ground...does it really hook any better? *bangs head on the wall*

Wow, I have a 129 viper and considered moving to a 137 SW but if footprint is that small how does that translate into better bridging of bumps and hook up on acceleration?

I counted the difference of lugs on their website and he is right, it is only two extra on the ground

From DEAD stop the 137 will leave a 129 and it will take you to a least 100 mph to catch up and maybe slowly creep by. The more HP the longer track you need. Look at the outlaw sleds they are running 144 in tracks and still can go over 140 mph.

I have had 128 and 136 delta BOX chassis sleds and for that much power I too would go 136 and you will love it.
A little longer but tough to feel with the new excellent front ends, its is not like the old days.

OK tuff question but here goes,i was a diehard 121 to 129 length track lover for many years, even trying out my 06 attack for one year to make it into a short track, and loving it. Than I was told by all the exsperts that the newer apex xtx's were faster than all there short track comparsions,I just did not believe it,till I talked to many owners of the 144 choice and those who had both 136 and 121's,it was the concinsous that the longer and more shallow track angle caused more top end,and they handles very very good,so I bought one a 15 apex xtx,and it was true, both my boys still have good going 121 apes and I can walk by them any where any time, and in the trails, well I never see them coming on by,and it does bridge a tad better. Now the battle between the 129 and 137,my choice is the 137 better bump capability, turning almost as quick, but those tight trails are still no problem for any of todays 137's to run around, better floatation, less track angle for better top speed,so that one gets my vote, now its your turn!Currently I have a '15 129 Viper RTX SE and I am really interested in moving up the the SideWinder.

I have had for two years now the 144 with tipped up rails,in the ape xtx and even though it has a little more power than any of my boys or friends apex's of 2006 none valved motors,it leaves them so quickly and still out guns them on top end, when mine is running 112 gps on crapy snow, they are lucky to be running 105 gps,it is that different in speed, and my big 144 corners almost as good as there's,so my pic for 2017 is LTX Le 137.

The 144 tipped up , is really a 129 , on the ground , and that is why it handles so good .But when you hit the throttle , some of the front of the track that was touching the ground is replaced by the tipped up section for added traction .I have had for two years now the 144 with tipped up rails,in the ape xtx and even though it has a little more power than any of my boys or friends apex's of 2006 none valved motors,it leaves them so quickly and still out guns them on top end, when mine is running 112 gps on crapy snow, they are lucky to be running 105 gps,it is that different in speed, and my big 144 corners almost as good as there's,so my pic for 2017 is LTX Le 137.
Now that my Apex XTX is uncoupled thanks to Star , and set up as it is , I am looking at getting a 144 to put in the sidewinder .
oR , put the 998 turbo , in my APEX XTX , after it makes a visit to MCX , for some massaging .
The possibilities are endless .

I really think Yamaha should have offered a Sidewinder STX-DX with the 146 inch cat skid. To me that would be an ideal power cruiser with a very smooth ride, great traction for all that power, and ultra stable. The 144 tipped up , is really a 129 , on the ground , and that is why it handles so good .But when you hit the throttle , some of the front of the track that was touching the ground is replaced by the tipped up section for added traction .

Yes I knew the dim. for on the ground track,i was contemplating getting a star kit for mine to make it ride like it should of,but most guys I spoke to said it did not rail like it used to,once uncoupled, and that was my fear,as we like to rail thru the tight stuff at speed. The 144 tipped up , is really a 129 , on the ground , and that is why it handles so good .But when you hit the throttle , some of the front of the track that was touching the ground is replaced by the tipped up section for added traction .

Thanks for all the comments. It looks like I will be looking at the LTX LE. Does anyone know the length of these ski tip to flap? It should fit in a Triton TC11 trailer yes? I think it's 10'6" (least that's what the Triton site said). I wish when spring ordering a sled they would give you track options, rather then having to work a deal on a track swap.
