A friend has a streched Apex (144"). He has the stock drivers with a tracks usa 144" kit with a 1 3/4" paddle track. He has smoked his sliders at the rail bend and has premature wear in the back quarter. He runs his track tight to prevent ratcheting. I think he needs some extrovert drivers, but I wanted to post a thread for any other ideas. Maybe some thoughts on what type of driver. Pitch? Size? It is a sweat set up, it hooks up, and looks mean. Just needs a little tweaking.

I have the same set-up. I did put the anti-ratchet drivers on. I have had several Yamaha sleds since 99 and they were all prone to ratchet. More so than other brands IMO when they are in stock form. I do not like to run a real tight track myself, and especially with an APEX and their power output, you have to get the track tight in order for it not to skip. There are a lot of opinions/suggestions on this site about how to reduce/eliminate track ratchet.
I will note that almost all of my ratchet occurred when I was in deep powder and had the nose pointed towards the sky. I am assuming my track is ballooning in this situation. Either way, the extroverts cleared up 95% of my problem, and I can still run my track loose enough where I am comfortable with it.

The marginal wheels don't work. I have a 121, and my track is tightened with 1.5 inches with medium down pressure, at the rubber bumper. No ratcheting.

Why doesn't yamaha put the extros on from factory? Do they wear fast? Creat a vibration? Rob top speed?

I am running extros on my sled with 144 and a zx-2. I am currently trying the Hiperfax to see if i can get better high fax life. But boy are they expensive.

do u mean the skidoo extros?? if so then did u change your track because i thought it had to have all windows open for them (yammis are clipped every third?) if im totally off here let me know lol

My track used to ratchet even though I ran it piano string tight and changed hyfax every 1000. I put wahl bros racing extros on mine. My track is rediculously loose and no ratcheting. No vibration, no loss of top end, less rotating mass (2 drivers vs 4)...can't tell you about wear yet only a few hundred miles on them. What a feeling having your sled pull strong through the deep instead of that annoying, fingernail on a chalk board sensation you get when it ratchets.

Yes, this will require a change from the stock track to run Extroverts, or you will need to open up every window.

You will have to open all the windows in the track

Order the Whal's From Rich Motorsports (site advertiser :) ) he normaly has em in stock.
