I Have a 06 apex gt out of warranty it has 1700 mi and the engine has a tick I took it to my dealer and now a week later they say the egine has metal in it. They think that it might be bad bearings but not shure until they tear it apart. If I let them tear it apart I will be without the sled for the rest of the season. Best case senario yamaha may pay for parts but not labor. What would you guys do, would you trade in for a 07 to finish out the season or let them take it apart and find out what is going on Or should I hold on to the sled and purchace the new fx nitro with no gear reduction.

I would most likely want the engine disassembled to find out what the problem is and what it may have been caused by.
Hard to believe Yamaha would let you down if it was a defect-haven't heard of any problems like this before in the Apex engines.

If your dealer has a good reputation, and a good one with Yamaha, I'm sure they will take care of you. If not, I'd ask the dealer to put your sled on the showroom floor for sale! I'm sure he'll do his/her best to help you!
One other idea would be: if you have to put your own money into the sled, send a pm to "dynoray", and get the motor to him for a once over. You could have him do the port and polish thing, and add cams for more power as well. I would think it would wind up about the same cost as having a dealer mess with it.

Personally, I would rip it apart myself, but this is definitely not a job for anyone who doesn't have EXTENSIVE experience working inside engines. Either way, if there's loose bits of metal in there, do NOT run it.
Also, if the dealer is half good and they know that there's bits of metal loose in there, they either won't offer anything for the unit, or they WILL advise potential purchasers of the problems, which will significantly lower the sale value.

I would trade it. Because not everyone is qualify & good to play with those engine.

I see no reason why yamaha shouldnt cover this engine regardless of how old it is.... It only has 1700 miles on it... and must have a defect....
