I have 2009 XTX that I'm thinking of installing a new track to get more off trail traction. I currently run a 1 3/8" cobra which is a great track but it does leave me looking for more later in the year. I know a lot of people run the 1.75 backcountry but am leaning more towards the 2" challenger. Any one running this track on their XTX with any feedback? I have already cut out the tunnel protectors and am running 9t extroverts with stock gearing and clutching.

I've run both 1.75" and 2" tracks and my experience is that there is a line that separates the two. That small increase seems to really effect things. What I mean by that is the 2" is where you start to have the increased noise and feel that I never noticed with a 1.75" ....the 1.75" tracks seem to work much better in hard packed as well.

For this reason I would suggest this; if you still like to do some trail riding or higher mile ditch banging days (destination type riding) I would suggest the 1.75" If you are a pure backcountry rider (or if you go out west) then the above mentioned problems don't matter and the 2" backcountry works awesome. I've owned a few and they work great even in the mountains.

The 9t extros will work with a 2" but that is about the limit for space. I have a 2" on mine now and I can shove my fingers inbetween the track and cooler, so not a ton of space but it works.

For gearing I would suggest dropping 2 teeth on the top sprocket to a 19. You can get one from Ulmer racing for around $35.

Good luck with the decision. ;)!

Running a 2" Challenger on my '11 XTX that has been prenotched for tunnel protectors. Fits like a glove under the tunnel. It's been a great track in the 3' of powder we got last week in Northern MN! I didn't change the gearing and am running stock drivers.
