My Attak with over 12,000 miles is really loud under the gas tank and backfires constantly! Scares the crap out of me! The donuts have under 1500 miles on them. Original Y pipes. I haven't taken it apart yet but I'm sure I'm due for some new Y pipes. Well, dealer said they getting shipped in from Japan and won't be here until the end of Feb.
Question #1 - Anyone know where I can find some new SS Y pipes?
Question #2 - I put a new belt on and right at engagement, it makes a almost grinding noise. Sled drives perfectly and if not for the noise, there would be no problem. I did clean it before putting it on. I put old belt back on and no noise. Both Yamaha belts. Anyone have any insight on this?
Thanks for the help!

1. are you sure that you have the right belt for the machine?? 2. have you checked your belt deflection. your belt should ride about 1/16" above the secondary. if your belt is sitting to low in the secondary it will ratchet and that is where you can get the grinding noise from.

Pretty sure its the right belt but I'll check again. I'm clueless on belt deflection and all that. That's why I have a Yamaha!! But I'll do some research on how to check.
3rd question - I've never taken the flex pipes off which I think I will to see if they are ok. What is the name of the socket extension I need? I can picture them but can't come up with a name. I'll also replace that gasket.
None of this labor annoys me too much, I can get to the exhaust donuts in around an hour but then have to wait a week for parts is what kills me!!!

your owners manual has all the info that you will need for belt deflection.
