I bought a used 2003 RX-1 Mountain. On the last ride the warning light started to flash.. I thought it was overheating. I pulled over and realized it was the oil indicator. I checked the level in the resevoir and all looked good. I started the machine up and about 15 miles later the light started to flash again. Again I pulled over and took a look. Nothing had changed. about an hour later while heading back home the light started to flash again. Is this a level indicator or pressure? The machine doesnt have that many miles on it 3100. Has anyone ever heard of this before?

It is oil level. When mine starts to flash, it is about 1 qt low. I ride mine untill that light flashes, check oil level and a 1/2 gt. Normally about 900 to 1000 miles before mine gets tat low.

I just checked the oil level on my level garage floor. It is filled past the high oil mark.. instead of being too low, do you think it could be too full??

Just remember, when you use the dipstick to check the oil, you DO NOT screw it in. If you are screwing it in and then checking it, it will look like there is more oil in there then there really is. You take out the dipstick and just sit it on the threaded hole and then pull it out and check it.

You also have to have the engine at operating temp. and only shut off for a short time.

Thanks for the info.. I will change the oil this weekend!!

SNOWTECH mag once said not to over fill these sleds, can led to high oil-comsumption.

don't freak out about the oil level, it is a sump system. if it is a little low or high, it wont hurt a thing, there is still plenty of oil in the system. if the light comes on, sure to check it, but unless it is really low, you can ride to next stop or wait until you get back to trailer to add with the oil that you normally use.

Yes! Be certain motor is completely warmed up before checking. And secondly, the "E" means "Enough", not "Empty"........... ;)! Do not fill past the "F" mark......unless you're already there.

Just a minor clarification: One does NOT get a lit oil level indicator, if the oil sensor circuit is not connected or is intermittent. There has to be a bad sensor or incorrect oil level to get a lit oil level indicator.

If you are over full, you may want to consider correcting the level. If that does not solve the problem, the sensor can be tested. Let's see what happens after the oil level is correct, eh?
