hey
i was just wondering what are the updates for the 2003 rx1 mountain? i have a aftermarket mountain performance tunnel extention and i have blue saddleless skis! i am looking for the updates for the motor. i saw somewhere on the web that i can get updated coils, carb bowls, coolant shut off valve, and the 2003-2004 rx1's had problems burning the oil and very updated with the 2005 rx1 rings which rosolved the problem, so 2005 rx1 piston rings is another pdate. is this all the updates for the 2003 rx1? i heard there was a problem with the jackshaft bearing going real fast. i just want to know if there are anymore updates for the 2003 rx1 and where could i get these updates? i am making my 2003 rx1 mountain up-to-date. as of yet i didnt have any problems but i just want to make everything updated to make it excellent.
thanks

I would make sure the float bowls are updated, the most important one IMO.
The carb shutoff valve is something you can do on your own, do a search on this site, there are a bunch of different ways guys have done it.
If you ride in marginal snow often, the rear heat exchanger should also be added.
look for threads and posts on this site, this website is the best one with guys that have info on making the 2003-5 sleds work than anyone else on the net IMO.
Before I sold my 03 I did the following:
- updated float bowls
- SLP powder pro skis
- carb coolant shut off
- rear heat exchanger
- Boss seat
- 2" handle bar risers
- punched out track windows and extrovert drivers
- ice scratchers
- removed sway bar (personal pref - I left it in on my Apex)
If I would have kept the sled I would have tried to start cutting wieght and I would have done the wildchild steering post kit and put a 159 or 162 track on it.

carb bowls
bring your vin number to your dealer and they can run it and see if the bowls have been updated. Otherwise they can get you the bowls from yamaha and should be free of charge.

would a rear sx cooler be compatable on the rx1 mountain?

Prior to yamaha coming out with the update kit, I tried to go the same route (using a SX cooler) you have to cut the tubes off the side and turn them and re-weld them. I took it to a radiator shop to have that done and then they pressure tested it for me. I was about to put it on, when Yamaha announced the kit. I gave the one I made to my brother in law, I can see if he ever used it for anything if you are interested in it -
I think the best one is the one made for the RX1 mtn - it adds ALOT more capacity and does a much better job of cooling than they SX one that I was looking to use

I don't own the sled any more - so no pics of the Yamaha cooler.
If I remember right a few guys have still installed the cooler with aftermarket extensions. Basically what they did was fabricate a bracket to hold the cooler 'straight'.

any idea what the backet looked like? i amnew to all of this and dont have a clue what to do. i need to see pictures of somethingon how this is done. i grinded a piece away from the cross-over bar and it look like the cooler will now fit there and i say i will not need any backets. there are also 4 rivot holes to mount it on and i think the coolant pipes coming out will just go through the holes and just rest on the holes made for the pipes to go through. i say it wont be too hard to get this to work. if you have any ideas let me know
thanks
