I bought a set of Yamha rage saddlebags and they don't fit correctly??? Part # SMA-8ES73-00-00 Yamaha says they fit RS VECTOR/RS RAGE Has anybody installed them yet? Please im leaving on a trip next week and have to figure this out... If i was to strap them down the rear i would think could cause a fire..

Scott,

I believe these are the semi-rigid bags. I have a set on my Vector. I have used them on a couple of long tours now with no problems, they fit very well.

What are the specific issues you are having? Some more details would help me and others on here get you fixed up.

I would think they would fit the Vector perfect.. But with the rage and the longer tunnel the straps are way to short bringing the rear of the bag to close i would think to the exhaust.. Last year i was on a trip in Canada and stopped at a Yamaha dealer and there was a rage burnt up in the rear from the exhaust..

I would try and maintain the position of the bags as per a Vector install as you don't want the rear of the bags to close to the exhaust outlet.

For the rear strap of the bags that goes under the Vector bumper, have you tried to route it between the tunnel and the plastic trim at the rear?

Another suggestion would be to mount a small metal or plastic ring on the tunnel directly behind the seat and between the two exhaust pipes. You could then run the rear strap through this ring.

If you got the same ones that fit the Warrior, they go on the back of the seat. The instructions are for the short sled. They do not go on the tunnel extension. The rear strap gets mounted on the extension just under the tail light, and the other clips go on the sides above the running boards. Just make sure you are not drilling thru the bracket for the suspension. If you do it will be harder to get the rivet in. When everything is pulled tight the bags sit fine on the very rear of the seat. They work well. ;)!

What you have are an early set of the new Vector/Rage saddlebags and at the time mounting them on the rear portion of a Rage was slightly overlooked. Those saddlebags are now coming with another set of cam buckles and new directions on how to mount them on a Rage. Basically you remove the clip on the rear of the bags and run the strap through a cam buckle that gets mounted on the side of the tunnel extension - just like how the front straps to the tunnel on those bags work. You can stop at any Yamaha dealer and get the cam buckles as Yamaha sells them separately or if you go to the dealer you bought the bags from they most likely should be able to give you a set. The part number for the cam buckles is SMA-LUGGE-HW-KT and they retail for $4.95. We have them in stock if you need them!
