The wife always rides the Vector and I haven't since 2006 until this year because now she likes the suspension on the RX-1 better. My question is, at about 35mph to 50 mph there is what I would describe as a throbbing vibration that you can feel all the way into the handlebars. After 50, I don't know if it equalizes out or what, but I don't notice it. I asked her about it, but of coarse she doesn't know. Everything seems fine. No sloppy movement on the clutches. There is also only 1600 miles on the machine and needless to say, she never set any speed records with it. The only work that has been done to it is the clutch rattle upgrade. I'm kind of concerned because I'm supposed to take a trip to Michigan in the next month or so. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

If it was the bearings wouldn't the vibration get worse as the speed increased rather than equalize out? I will take another look though.

I called the dealer tonight and talked with their head Yamaha Tech who they refer to as the Yamaha Guru. He said that what I'm describing is normal for this sled. He said it is a combination of the vibration in the engine and the track, and told my not to worry about it. I asked him if he was sure, and he said yes that it is common on but probably not all 1st year Vectors. I asked him about the drive shaft bearings like some people have had go bad and he said that this is not what that is. I guess I'll have to take his word for it since nothing seem loose and he can't fix something if he doesn't think it's broke. Maybe I'll try my extra belt tomorrow to see if that makes a differance. Thanks for the idea.

Definitely check the bearings as described above. My wife's vector doesn't do as you described and it's an 05 too.

My friend bought an 04 warrior last year and sounded similar to what you are describing...Turned out both sides of the drive axel bearings were toast.

If the dealer's 'guru' is wrong and a bearing goes, you're into major $$ to repair.

I'll check them again, but I've never had a bearing go out on any sled that I've ever owned, so my question is, wouldn't the sled keep vibrating past 50 and keep getting worse the faster you go?

change the belt!

I was having handlebar vibration issues on my 07 Rage at 'middle' speeds (30-50) and was thinking track / suspension issues. I kept thinking this right up until the belt blew at about 75MPH.

After installing a new belt (don't ask about all the cords wrapped around the secondary) I was amazed at how much smoother the sled was. I hadn't noticed the vibrations at first, slowly got worse over time.

Replace the belt, nothing to lose by trying it -

I have an 05' and have never noticed a vibration.

Thanks for the tip about the belt guys. That's what it was. It smoothend right out. Seems kind of funny that it was something this simple, but after 25 years of riding, I never had a belt or bearing for that matter go bad.

Now be sure to tell your Dealer and that Head Yamaha "tech" guru to listen and actually look into your complaints next time, rather than ignore them. It could help other customers as well.

FWIW - I had a vibration on my 05 on acceleration over speeds of 45 mph. I thought my track was too loose. NOPE - belt started to disintegrate. Am going to check clutch alignment.

Don't take it too hard! I never had a belt fail before either and was kinda angry at myself for not checking it sooner. I think the 4S torque works the belt harder than a typical 2S motor, leading to an earlier demise.

Seems like a post that has been around since 2005. Many of us have complained about this same reverberation over the years. Good luck.
