My '05 Vector is having a strange issue! If I'm on a lake with tracks it'll run fine on low and midrange then when i hold it wide open it began acting like there was water in the fuel! Running dying running dying and eventually went black and shut itself down! After a minute it fired back up! I've also experienced this on trails with a lot of loose snow causing drag at WOT! Any ideas??

check your fuel filters, if its like mine there should be 2 of them inside the fuel tank. grab a coat hanger and stretch it out, make a hook on the end and fish into the front towards the steering column, if youve never changed them id bet theyre prob caked up with copper dust and other stuff. even if they look ok i would still change them if you never had, aside from that, did the vectors come with a fuel shut off under the hood? is it open, definitely sounds to me like a fuel supply issue so check all your lines for kinks, check the vent line make sure its clear.

filters first though

I have never changed them and have 9500 miles on it!! Good idea!! Maybe they are plugged and allow enough fuel for low and midrange but not wide open! Thanks I'll give it a shot!

lol take a picture of them, depending on your part of the states and what kinda gas you get/put in, youll be blown away at what those filters have picked up. Just remember theres 2 when you order replacements.

and if that ends up being the issue and its anything like mine they engineered the hoses inside the tank with absolutely ZERO wiggle room to change the filters, youll see what i mean.

definitely have someone give you a hand, and preferably have a pair of long neck needle nose pliers

I looked them up on the Yamaha fiche and yeah I never knew you had to change them out! I have some 12",15", and 18" locking foreceps I use for fishing maybe I can get in there with those! I normally run only the crap 87 octane too! From the fiche it almost looks like you might be able to remove the entire assembly from the front of the tank! I might even try that route!

negative, wont come out the front the holes arent big enough for the filters, have to go in through the rathole up top

Sounds similar to the problem I posted last week. Sled starves for fuel under WOT. I received my new fuel filters this week. Going to install them soon. You can read the suggestions under the post I started for other ideas that people contributed to the topic.

Thanks for the heads up! You just saved me the time of tearing the seat and tank off! Guess I'll fish them out! Weird thing I tested it today and it's running fine wide open! Seems sporadic! 90% of the time runs fine.

Check your air filter foam too! My 973 developed a bog last year and it turned out to be ice clogging the foam...starving it for air. It was super cold and I had been busting drifts. Sled was then parked in a 40° shop then taken back out at evening. I'm guessing I sucked powder into the box that morning, it melted and then re-froze into one big ice cube. Thawed the foam out with a heat gun and sled ran fine.

Carbs cleaned at dealer and I changed the filters today! Pretty easy job! Here's a pic of new vs old filter! Ran sled 12 miles up the lake and back so far so good but a long railroad grade will tell for sure!
