I have a vibration problem that has been hard to trace. At idle, or at higher RPM I have a vibration that resonates through the tunnel. It comes and goes. I checked under the tunnel and everything seems tight. I even pulled the skid out and it still vibrates. It seems like a loose exhaust rattle but the pipes and muffler seem tight under the tunnel. I was wondering if exhaust donuts could be worn out causing the pipe to rattle but it doesn't sound to me like there is an exhaust leak.

Any ideas would be really appreciated.

You might want to consider examining the exhaust donuts. Also, look for cracks in the piping. Check the fasteners that hold the muffler in place, etc.

Being an '06, they seemed to have a lot of problems with exhaust donuts. How may miles do you have on the thing? It seems like at 5K miles the donuts start to go bad. But being "Bad" is a relative thing. What one calls bad might really be O.K. and just the clamps need a bit of work. Speaking of clamps, there is a clamp mod guys have been doing to tighten them up better. Grind off 1/8 to 1/4" from the boss around the clamp's bolt to allow it to clamp tighter. If the donut looks good and the clamp is loose, this mod will allow you to tighten up the clamp a bit and away you go. This could be your problem. ??

Thanks for the input. It has 3200 miles on it. I checked the muffler and pipes under the tunnel and it seems very tight. Is it a big job to check\replace the exhaust donuts?

A little more info....I just rode it for the first time. It has a rough idle and the exhaust note sounds almost muted. I have an '03 RX1 as a basis for comparison. Engine roughness and vibration seem to go away at speed.

I wanted to provide all possible information before going to the exhaust donuts because it is such a big job.

Thanks again for your help.

Well it was the friggin' donuts

I pulled the sled apart and sure enough every one of the donuts was gone. I saw a piece, maybe a quarter of one donut. It was the only thing left out of all four of them. The clamps were very loose and spun around easily be hand. So I think we have found the problem.

Keep your eye on the left side drive shaft bearing. Mine didn't show any signs of failure.

I relaced it for preventative maintanence. I can't even turn it with my fingers.
